I have found the last couple of days that the performance was not up to par. I also have noticed that on the last tank of gas and now this one, the mileage is not very good either.
Checking the codes I keep coming up with code 114 (Air Charge Temp sensor above or below voltage).
I got this code before (just before my oil in plug wells problem). I checked it out, looked clean, just cleaned it a bit more and wiggled the wires leading to it a bit. No more code.
Now this time, despite the fact that it is very clean, I cleaned it again, checked the wires, no corrosion or noticable problems etc.
However, I keep getting that code.
Is it something that just goes, and needs to be replaced? I have around 78,000 miles.
I have no problem replacing items that need replacing but I just wanted to check if anyone has any suggestions of something else to look for etc? Or is this an open and shut case of the ACT sensor being defective and a new one will send me back on my way!
Oh yes, given it's purpose I imagine the answer is yes but does that little orange doo-hickey affect performance and gas mileage to a noticable degree?
Thanks.

Any ideas? The idle is now lopey as well, going from around 500 to 1200, back and forth. I can smooth it out by turning the car off and then restarting it, but it will idle at around 900 for a while and then slowly go back to it's up and down idling.
I have reset the computer twice as per Scott's advice to someone else. Again, it will work for a bit but slowly work itself into almost stalling and then catching itself.
I realize that the idle problem could be the IAB but that was cleaned about a month ago. Is it likely that the idle problem is related to the ACT problem? I have done everything I can to clean every part of this ACT sensor, including the harness on the outside of the airbox, but I'm still getting the 114 code.
Should I just replace it?
Also, if I cannot do that by tomorrow, would a faulty ACT cause damage or really go nuts on a long drive? I am supposed to go to Detroit tomorrow, about a 4 hour drive for me each way.
I doubt I can get a new ACT sensor by tomorrow.

You shouldn't have a problem on a long trip. I don't have the chart with me, but there is a resistance reading based on a specific temperature. If you have a manual, look in there for a chart of resistance vs. temperature. It does not matter which temp sensor (ACT, ECT, etc), they are all the same. If you can't find a chart, email me and I will scan it and send it to you.

I appreciate that. I don't have a manual but someone emailed me the resistence vs temperature stuff.
Unfortunately, I don't have anything to read the voltage so until I either acquire one or go to a mechanic, it won't help me that much.
I can get an ACT sensor for a good price so I am going to go ahead and do that.
If that doesn't fix it, I'll know it must be in the wiring somewhere....plus I'll have a brand new ACT sensor.
Such is life in SHO land.
Thanks for your advice.
