My 94 ATX wont start, symptoms (battery tests good, all lights and interior features function) and suggestions by several have led me to attempt replacing the starter. I've got the car off the ground and attempting removal, but having a **** of a time with the rear bolt. I have a chilton manual and the following diagram

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairguide/repairGuideContent.jsp?chapterTitle=Engine+Electrical&partName=Engine+%26+Engine+Overhaul&pageId=0900c1528027944b&subChapterTitle=Starter&partId=0900c15280279237&CJPID=6152243&cmpid=cj

But as you can see it states this is for the SLO or for the 3.0 I'm wondering if there are any tips or tricks you all could provide in getting this thing out, and or answering the simple question is my starter the same as pictured in the the link above, I feel like 2-3 bolts this thing should come right out.

Thanks in advance.

The rear bolt can be a bit of a pain i think i can normally crawl under there and get it but its been a little while since ive done it. A swivel joint should make it pretty easy to do.

One of the bolts is a little difficult but it is secured by only 2 bolts. Do yourself a favor and source a Motorcraft starter. NAPA rebuilds will have you doing this fix again in a year and a half. Make sure the starter you get is a 12 tooth not a 10. Ten tooth is for MTX.

Go in through the fenderwell if you can't get it from the bottom...

If you can. I'm not sure on an ATX.

my experience is that the NAPA lifetime warranty ones last a very long time, while the ones with a one year warranty will break soon after the warranty expires. same holds true for the alternators in my experience. if you buy NAPA, definitely spend the little extra for the lifetime warranty one.

Fixed!!!

I really appreciate all the replies here, it just required some extra muscle to break the bolt free, and I got the replacement (rebuilt motorcraft) in and shes running.

Thanks so much

:thankyou: :woo-hoo:
