I rebuilt the rear calipers in my 92 SHO, ground rotors and am putting in new pads. I screwed the pistons in as far as they want to go by hand using an adapted large needle nose pliers to grip the end of the piston. I have about 2-1/8 inches of room from the piston head to the casting backstop for the pads. When I go to assemble on rotor, the pads are too thick or the piston needs to screw in farther because the opening is not large enough. Pads are from NAPA. Will it help to make a piston driving tool to adapt to an air impact to spin it in farther? Are the pads the problem? Anybody know the dimension when the piston is fully screwed in? I guess I could diassemble and reassemble without the piston seal to find out myself if need be - pain in the butt...

The piston should go all the way in and end up flush with the face of the caliper. Did you get it in that far?

I also think '92 is a cross over year. While most '92s have the vented rear rotors, I believe some have said they have the non-vented like the '93 - up cars. I suppose it's possible you have the wrong pads.
