Hello, I brought my newly re-acquired 92 down to the alignment shop, to get it lined up,a nd they called saying that the slight motor mount I was feeling, was actually the rotted out crossmember mounts, in the back of the front suspension. It is not where all of the suspension mounts to it, but rather where the crossmember mounts to the car. Do I NEED to put another non-rusted cradle in the car, or can I fix whats there? For those of you who are SHO shops near Springfield, MA (such as Bryan King, Fred Hurder, etc...) what would be a cost of doing such a thing? Also, I would probably do motor mounts at the same time. Thanks! I can be emailed at [email protected], or post here. Thanks to all!

Are you talking about the Subframe bushings? If so get some Aluminum ones and some reacall kits and you will be all set. It won't happen again then.

If you are talking about the subframe bushing, you can get a good set from Bruce Malachuk (netviper). Don't forget to get two subframe recall kits. They include 2 new bolts, 2 washers, 2 nuts, and 2 rubber grommets. 2 sets of the recall kits will cover the 4 subframe mounting bushings.

Kevin,

Talk with Fred first and see if he can take a look at it for you. If not give me a buzz. I do have one set of my Subframe bushings left. We could also do Kirks mounts at the same time if you wanted to.

Where do I get a recall kit? If I take a picture of it on the spot, would that help? The way the guy described it to me, it is where the crossmember bolts up to the car itself?! I called Ford and they looked up the VIN, and said there were no recalls on it. Any help would be appreciated, it is at the shop right now, and if at all possible, to get the kit installed there would be great because they wont recharge me for the alignment. Thanks to all, I appreciate it!

The recall kit should be available from a local Ford dealer. Last set I bought was at the Ford in Wilbraham...don't know if they have anymore now. Part # XF1Z-5A364-AA and should be about $15 each. Taking a picture would definitely help.

OKay, will get a pic tomorrow if possible! Also, There WAS indeed a recall on this, correct? They came up with NOTHING in the computer for it...?! I was checking out netviper's list, and it says something like $128 for the set of SFB and 2 recall kits? I will get a pic tomorrow, being that I do not have hosting, who should I send it to, to tell me what it def is? Thanks to all for your help!

Yes there was a recall for the REAR subframe bolts. Due to corrosion the bolts could have possibly corroded and breaked. The recall includes cutting a hole in the floor board until the clutch pedal and the passenger side floor board, in order to replace the bolts and nuts. If you want to check to seem if the recall has been done, just pull up the carpet and matting underneath by the clutch pedal and see if you can spot a black rubber grommet about 3-4" across or a hole of some sort.

Well, didnt get pics of the rust, but the guy explained it is the back 2 subframe bolts, said that the hole is ovalized, as well as rusted. ADoes this sound like it needs the recall kit with a larger washer? I'm very novice on this area of the SHO, and I appreciate the patience and help with it! I now have the car home, in Wilbraham, anyone nearby like Chicopee, Holyoke, Springfield, etc... that could take a quick look under the car, to tell me what the deal is. I'm saying a quick look, only take a couple mins, to tell me if I need a subframe, or if its fixable. Thanks!

I just checked out the procedure by Will LEwis, and it looks like it wont be very bad. Is it possible the outer hole would be ovalized? I have not yet looked at the subframe, but I'm just asking, as thats what he described it as. Thanks!

FYI, Erik took a look at my 92 today, and determined it needs the bushings. The awesome mechanic who put the subframe on the car, did not put on the bottom rubber pieces)... I'm waiting for netviper to run off another set, can't wait to get them put in! Thanks again Erik, will be in touch soon!

Kevin, just saw this post.

I have one set of Bruce's SFBs on the shelf that was slated for my own 95 ATX, but hasn't gone in. If you need those, by all means, "buy" a set from Bruce & take a swing out to pick them up off me, and have Bruce ship "your" set to me. Up to you. I also have 2x recall kits on the shelf.

Feel free to give me a call.
