Just realized I don't have an alternator connector. I thought it was tied into the engine harness. Everything else is connected - but not alternator.

The male connector on the alternator is a three-prong. Lookin at the EVTM (page 12-2) for the 3.2 it appears there are four connections.

Connector C154
(I) - LG/R to the back side of alt warning lite (12v norm operation).
(A) - Y/W to the fusable links, starter and main power (12v fused, allways on)
(mid wire) - terminates and not used

(B+) - this isn't in the connector with others. Am I missing something?

Even without the connector I can rig some spade connectors for testing, but this won't do for the final install.

B+ goes on the large terminal on the rear of the alternator.

You have the others identified correctly.

Thanks rubydist, I'll go looking for the B+ connection point.

Any ideas where I can source a new/used mating connector for the 3.2 alternator?

Gerard,

I'm sure I have one of the Alternator plugs that you could splice on, take a pic of your alternator and post it.

As far as the big +positive cable goes, any crimp-on eyelet that will take a #8 or bigger will do, just make sure the eyelet hole is slightly larger than the post on the alternator.

I'm surprised at how many of these connectors are available at Rock Auto. I've never had luck finding them for the 914 so I don't think to look there.

Cool. Thanks guys.

Tom,

Here's a pic of the alternator & connector. The example El Sho provided appears to be the right type of connector, but the part doesn't look like it includes the rubber boot that seals them.

If you've got one the fits & has the rubber boot I'd be interested.

The rubber boot is not in the harness connector (the one shown from RockAuto), it should be on the voltage regulator on the alternator.
I remember that the stock alternator in my ATX had the rubber orange boot seal all melted and when I replaced the alternator twice, both of the new/reman Alts didnt have a rubber boot/seal on them to connect.

The one shown from RockAuto fits really nice and snug, I would't worry too much about water getting in there but perhaps you could fab some sort of cover?

With how long this thing is taking me - I'm going to drive it everywhere, anytime, rain or shine. :zoom:

I'm even going to get approval to use in place of company car. I'd much rather drive the 914 over the chevrolet sedans we use.
