i recently purchased an SHO and it doesn't have anything past the resonator... i listened to some mufflers... (online unfortunately) and i really like the sound of the Thrush turbo(they are $25 on Summit)... but i need all the rest of the pipe to complete... i alost dont know what size muffler to buy and if what type... I.E. offset offset/center offset/center center... or vice versa for those three... pretty much i need to know everything as far as the exhaust goes... i am willing to replace the resonator if its recommended and under $50... also if you could tell me where i can purchase this stuff that also would be greatly appreciated... i should also mention that im trying to keep this as cheap as i can... $400 for me to put this exhuast on is too much for me at this time so if thats impossible then please let me know... also how mechanically inclined do you have to be to do this exhaust?
thanks in advance
Matt

The easies way to see all the parts and sizes is to go to RockAuto:
go to the DOHC listing in the 91 Taurus section, then,
Exhaust - Muffler - Walker 18328 - press info and a chart comes up that displays your parts and the sizes of the pipes.
And do not replace the resonator.

We do offer the SHO Source Catback: SHO Source

I do realize this may not meet your budget goals but this is a full 304 Stainless exhaust system which will last though the northeast winters. Any other system will rust out in a year or 2 which means you will be right where you started.

You can also select any muffler you want as well. The system is a full 2.5" diameter piping unlike other systems.

I have a dyno-max catback myself. It has been on the car ever since I purchased it and has seen several MN winters. There doesn't seem to be an issue with rust, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time, so I would prefer a stainless shosource catback. Before you spend a dime on upgrades, you should make sure your maintenance is taken care of. These cars require maintenance at 60k intervals, so check it out! An exhaust will do nothing if the timing belt has been shredded or the valve lash is huge. Good luck man!

The dynomax is the best bang for the buck. Mine lasted 8 daily driven years.
The sho source stainless is the best!
I have both. :)

thank you sperold i am now looking at the walker system...
how does it compare to sho sources cat back system?
and with the sho source cat back system it being 2.5" wouldn't that need some customization? on rockauto it says i have 2" pipe...
i can get the walker exhaust for about $200 dollars... which is a **** of a lot nicer than $475...
the dynomax exhaust is $450(I think... went to Jegs and the didn't have one specifically for my car...) if I was going to do that i would just get the sho source exhaust no?
@Waffles: I have driven the car aproxomitely 10 miles(had to do a tranny swap when purchased cause the previous owner had siliconed a hole in the trans from the diff pin...)since then it hasn't had an exhaust so i didn't want to legalize the car till i was closer to being done with it... but i did drive it so the timing belt is not torn?... I hope...
I am willing to spend another $200 dollars on top of the exhaust for maintenance crap... is that reasonable?

I have the Walker system with the stock resonator and Flowmaster 40-series stainless, all welded mufflers. The 40 series is nice and short and fits exactly where the old units were in a Gen1. Then you can use the tips and it does not look dorky. The mufflers were pricey and have lasted well, but the stock Walker system has lasted just as long (10 years). And I live where rust never sleeps. The system is fully intact, with no rust and even the stickers are still hanging off it. So relax on the long life issue.... the Walker stuff is great. Get the Thrush Turbos if you like them (check the length to see if they are close), you will have to change them more often than you would a premium stainless muffler, but so what.

Buddy, I'm just making sure ya know about the 60k and rod bearings (forgot to mention that) It would just suck to get caught with your pants down. The timing belt comment was implying that you want to make sure that along with other things are on the up and up. It sounds like you know whats going on, so happy hunting!

The Thrush will last longer than that, more like 5 plus years depending on your driving ritual. Hang them properly with the stock hangers so they are rigid. The problem with mufflers on our cars is they are way at the end of the system, so unless you are going a long ways, they never warm up and shed the water that is trapped in them. If you drive 20 miles or so to work every day, they will last a very long time.
And like I said earlier, it has been 10 years on mine, and I don't see any signs of failure anywhere, the pipes still have that galvanized look.

The system bolts up and we give you all needed hardware.

As for the Dynomax some people have had their system rust out after 1 to 2 years. Stainless steel is better at resisting rust compared to the aluminized steel found in the Dynomax system.

the dual outlet is if you want 2 tips sticking out of the bumper like stock. :thumb:

Intimdatr is correct, it is if you want 2 mufflers.
