So after Saturday and Sunday at CMP I deffinatly know the weaknesses of my SHO. #1 is most absolutely BRAKES!!! those damn frisbees do nothing to stop you. #'s 2 and 3 I'm kinda mixed with I need an LSD and I will be getting coilovers. Over all I'm happy with how the SHO performed it took 2hrs and 20mins of track abuse without problems. (other than the rotors glowing and now being warped to ****) It is most deffinatly the most fun I have ever had in any case. I wish I had a go pro so I could post some video's up. The sho was faster than a stripped 91 integra with racing slicks and that was in the corners I think most of that was just driver though. It was also faster than a miata and a volkswagen jetta wagon there wasn't much of a group of cars in the novice class with the same class of car. The closest was the integra.

Thoughts comment's suggestions on what I should do lol.

Are you on stock brakes? If so then yes, they are definitly a weak point. It all depends on what you want to spend.If you are only going to the track once in a blue moon you could go with '96 brakes, good pads and stainless lines. If you plan on more track days then I would say step up to something more aggressive.

I still find it amazing how a 20 yr old grocery getter can make such a fun track car.

More track days I'm going for the 13in Cobra's up front. I got to ride in a late 90's M3 and he started braking at the 200ft make going 100mph. I want my car to do that. lol

Yes yes it is lol my instructor has had 4 but he's getting out of them for all the $ pits they are. :nut:

Yeah, they can be a money pit, but then any play/track car can be. I think the biggest factor is that the aftermarket on sho's is alot smaller than other cars so it seems to cost more to modify them. Still, if you get one as a dedicated track car I dont think it would be to bad. Buy it cheap (especially if you dont care about how it looks), do the maintinance, gut it and spend money on brakes and suspension.

Any track car takes $ to keep going. After doing other things for a couple of years now I'm having a stronger appreciation for how cheap the Pumpkin was to run and how reliable it was for a race car.

I think my ad has dropped off the end of the history, but I still have the brakes from the Pumpkin for sale, full kit on knuckles with braided lines. PM me if you'd like more info.

I can't speak for pumpkin but my 1990 has seen 5 track days and only needs fresh engine oil a wheel bearing and 2 strut mounts (racing on a very bumpy track) other than that I run the **** out of it. I am still on the same set of hawk ht10 brake pads on 11.6/cobra setup on 245 rubber all around. I am not afraid to push the car to and sometimes beyond the limit and she just keeps on trucking....

I forgot about the crank seal failure... that was 10 bucks

Whats the old saying "U gotta pay to play"? Any vehicle you run hard consistantly is gonna wear things out faster than if you baby it. I would say the motor does very well in close to stock form and the rest of the suspension stuff is just wear items. Even if its highly modified the engine can handle alot if you keep up with stuff.

lol I think this engine is the most reliable road course engine I have come across. They don't fail. I don't let mine cool between sessions, I run it at red line (stock redline) all day and I have never had a single issue other than the crank seal leaking but that will happen on a 21 year old car. I guess engine failure is pretty rare in general though. I have only seen one saturn engine puke a rod (still drove 2 hours home with in knocking like crazy) and a neon shred a timing belt and destroy the head at 7Krpm.

where is CMP and what do the initials stand for.

Carolina Motorsports Park. It's in Kershaw, SC.

It's a bunch of drag strips with slow speed 90 and 180 degree turns connecting them. Full throttle, brake, full throttle, brake, you never go fast enough to get any real airflow for cooling them off.

Well if I'm doing 95-100 on the straights that I would think would be a lot of speed for cooling. But it's just the speeds where you go 90-100 then slow to 35 at least 3 times on the track.
