I can get a GREAT deal on some 225/60ZR15s...the manufacturer says it will work on a 6" wide rim just fine.

I have a GenI with basket wheels, and no suspension mods Are there any problems using a 225/60-15 tire (besides being abit shorter)? It's only four tenths of an inch wider, but I wanted an answer from someone who has personal experience.

need to know by tomorrow! TIA!

My stock 89 has 225/60/R15 BFG Touring TAs on it from the PO. They fit on the basket weaves fine, don't rub on turns, and absolutely suck in the rain and the snow.

I can't wait for them to wear out so the wife will let me buy new tires.....

Those are just "plain old tires" and will sacrifice a great deal of the SHO's handling capability. Even if they are free, that would be too big a cost for most SHO owners.

Matt,
As a previous owner of some "cheapo" tires, I can honestly tell you that they aren't nearly as safe enough to handle the performance that even a stock sho can dish out. Last year I was running some cheapo general tires that had more sidewall flex than watching a bowl of jello during an earhquake!! eek! I also had a near "over the cliff" experience at the Lone star SHO club meet cuz the tires wouldn't hold the cornering. My advice is IF you want to run them, be VERY aware of your rubber while trying to aggressively corner or drive the car at high speeds. Don't rely on them long, however and go with the Bridgestone RE-730s whenever you get some $$. Best tires you can get for a SHO in Scott and my opinion. thumbs_u

I'm not getting what he said...

THIS is what I'm getting. I think that's a good deal...$47 a tire.
I'll be at the NE Dragway meet. If any other SHO (or is it SHOs?) decide to go they can report on their performance.

Funny...Those are the tires I'm going to get for my T-bird. In 245/50-17 :)

I've got a set of those RE-730's on my 17" rims. Absolutely beautiful tires. Good tread life, great wear and they aren't to bad in the rain and snow. I would not hesitate to buy many more sets once these wear out. As for the Yokohama's, I personally have not used these. I do know they have a pretty good reputation.

I put the Yokohama AVSdb performance tires on my 93 SHO and was very very impressed, expecially with hard cornering, wet conditions. The DO NOT hydroplane! VERY quiet and cool running. Cool looking tread design, too, and good wearing. I paid $106.00 ea from discount tire, had them siped, too. Highly recommend. I checked reviews, and it was the only tire no one bitched about!

By the way, the Yokohamas I bought were 225-16, not a problem with size at all, and the 225s have an additional layer of fabric for stability at high speed, and corner better than the 215s I had on before, and look better. NO negative aspects with these tires!

First impressions of my 225/60-15 Intermediates compared to 215/65-15 bridgestones (all-seasons).

From 10mph in first, flooring it, instead of laying a 40ft patch (not longer because it tachs out), they lay a 4ft patch, then hook.

Corners are much improved, tires screech at 90 mph instead of 60mph.

Downside is that the treadwear rating is 160. however, this is OK because I got my set for less than half of the 300 (gen2) rated re730.

I would not recommend these over the re730s unless you can get them cheap (I think they are going to change the pattern and are selling all the current stock.
