Okay...So I just picked up a 2015 SHO with 20K miles. I'm interested in getting a tuner and 3bar map sensor. I'm a little hesitant / worried on what it will do to the motor over time. I don't want to take years off the motor. This is my daily driver about 75miles a day and I keep cars till about 150K. Also will putting a tune on it increase the maintenance I have to do on the car over the regular scheduled maintenance?

Welcome to SHOforum, 321, and congrats on the new ride! Tuned or not, regular maintenance is key to your SHO's longevity. If you are a DIY'r, it will be that much cheaper as well. 150K seems very attainable. If you want to have a warranty, get it from Ford before your 3/36 runs out for best pricing (online). FloodFordESP.com seems to have the best pricing at the current time.

As for the tune, you want to run a 93 tune with top tier 93 gas if at all possible. Where are you located, and do you have easy 93 availability? Otherwise you can run an 87 tune, but still would want to run 89 or higher gas for best results. Don't ask for the hottest tune possible, since you want the SHO to be a DD. You will want to do a colder TStat also I think for best benefit, but you can discuss with your tuner what the best DD tune is without a TStat installed.

Normally recommended that you keep the 2 bar MAP and tuner in-vehicle to enable you to return to stock as needed. Whenever you go in for dealer service always return to stock, as they may update the computer strategy, and then the tune won't work properly until you get the tuning company to update it first.

I'm new to the forum and this is my first turbo'd car. I know we can use 87, but what is the upside to putting 89 in it?

When factoring mpg it is in your best interest to put in atleast 91. Atleast for me I got my best fuel mileage when using premium making it only a few cents more per gallon.

I'm going to test it out. I am taking a road trip to Ohio in 2 weeks to see some family before the holidays start, and I'm going to run the numbers to see what mpg I get and how the car runs.

Using higher octane gas will also reduce knock/detonation events, which are really problematic for forced induction engines. 87 is ok if you drive very conservatively. But then you will run into carbon buildup issues on the back of the intake valves. To prevent that, you should get into the throttle every so often. Which again leads you back to using higher octane fuel.

Plus, it is typically 93 or premium gas that has the best detergent formulations that will keep the fuel system clean. Additives dont work that well in these GTDI engines.

If you choose 87, only use Top Tier gas, especially with winter approaching. toptiergas.com

Sadly I do not have a SHO. My statement, however, is a collation of experiences narrated by SHO owners and technical articles published over the years.

Save your money!! It's been proven at the track that the stock air box performs practically the same! I'm talking a difference of "hundredths," of a second in 1/4 mile!

SHOdded - you brought up a question I have now...if returning to stock to go into dealer and "IF" they change/update computer strategy...then I won't be able to program back to my 93 tune right? The updated computer strategy won't match the computer strategy on MyCal?

Correct, you will just need to let your tuner know the new strategy and they can update the tunes.
