2013 SHO Coolant Leak

My coolant reservoir has had to be refilled 4 times in the last month and a half. I haven't seen any coolant anywhere on the ground. I haven't done a pressure test but I was thinking it could be a water pump issue.
My CPO powertrain warranty ends on 8/1, so I'm bringing it in tomorrow. Anyone else with a similar problem?

Had a similar problem and found out it was pooling in/on the belly pan. You most likely have a leak, I’d take off the belly pan(scrape pan) and double check.

If you find nothing there I’ve heard of coolant gnomes that strike on warm nights. Put out a plate of winded soaked Oreos to rid yourself of those lil buggers.

Keep in mind that the water pump in your SHO is driven by the timing chain. If the bearing in the center shaft fails coolant can enter the oil pan/passages of the engine and toast your engine in no time flat. If your oil has a milky appearance that is a sign coolant is present. The water pump is sealed with 2 parallel seals which will allow coolant to gradually leak out through an opening in the water pump to alert you of an impending seal failure. If the seal does fail you only have to replace the water pump, which is a big deal due to its location and having to basically remove the front of the engine, but at least your engine isn’t ruined. Perhaps your coolant is leaking out very slowly through the pump opening and you just haven’t noticed yet? Sorry so long a post but the water pump on these cars is a weak point because they usually need replaced during the life of the vehicle and a shaft bearing failure can be catastrophic.

You can easily tell if its a failed water pump because there will be a large buildup of crud behind the alternator on the side of the block. There is a tell tale drain that comes out behind the alternator and this drain is linked to the space between O-rings on the water pump shaft, this way if the coolant side fails it will start dripping out behind the alternator and will probably evaporate before it hits the ground for a long time before you notice a puddle.

Someone who owned my car before me took my belly pan off so I always forget everyone else has one.

Ended up being a very small leak in one of the hoses.
They were also checking a transmission problem I had. Car would slam into gear at low speeds when you let off the gas. I though maybe it was a computer issue, ended up I will be getting a new transmission under my CPO powertrain warranty.

In case anyone is interested, this is the diagnosis off my receipt from the dealer for my transmission failure. Got the car back after 3 weeks. Only cost me the $100 deductible.

72746 7A103 CC 69 Verified concern performed EEC Test Found DTCS P0731 P0735 P2700, Line Pressure 48 PSI at idle 148 PSI at 2000 RPMs, Metal on dipstick Fluid Full and black, Burned odor, Removed trans and placed on bench fixture. disassembled found oil pump failure, metal throughout and scored due to excessive heat.

Well so much for Ford service. Car now has a creaking noise over Driver side front wheel and even worse, coolant reservoir is empty and is ******* the temp gauge again. I'll be bringing the car back in again tomorrow morning.

Well I take my car back in and what do you know? The water pump is bad. I originally took the car in for a coolant leak on 7/30. I tell them that I told the service writer that I believe the water pump is bad. They diagnose it as a faulty radiator hose and charge me $300ish to change the hose.
I get the car back 8/24 as the transmission was bad and had t be replaced. Yesterday, I'm driving and the temp gauge spikes and the warning goes off. I get home and the coolant reservoir is empty again. I call and tell them I'm bringing the car back for the same issue I was having.

. My CPO warranty expired on 8/1 and they don't want to cover it. They said they pressure tested it and the water pump wasn't bad when it left. I said how did he know if the water pump was leaking with a pressure test. He said they check the oil. Not sure I believe that.
Now they're going to try and contact Ford, but they said they don't think it's likely it will be covered. I tell them I brought the car in under warranty and it isn't right.
Very disappointed.​

Not very happy right now and will never buy another Ford or recommend it to anyone else.

Pursue. Pursue. Pursue. They rely on customers to give up easily in this day n age and move on. Take it UP the ladder at the dealership. Talk with Ford directly too. Make sure they know your viewpoint CLEARLY. And line up your documentation/legal representation.

I forget what the lemon laws are but maybe you have enough of a case?? I wonder if your original coolant leak paperwork states that you stated the water-pump had issues? This is BS as that is a known design flaw and part of the reason why I push people to get an extended warranty on the powertrain for these cars.

They are fun until they are done. SHOboom we used to say back in the day
