Considering there will prob be no history on what may have been replaced and some big ticket items that may be looming like turbos, PTU, water pump I'd be very leery. Municipal vehicles are not always well maintained like they were decades ago. And coming from a couple CVPIs in the past both were solid but the 4.6s were know to have water pump, cooing fan, cats go bad as they typically spend considerable time idling compared to normal cars of the same mileage. I believe interceptors have a hours counter the later CVPIs did.

I am curious what the passengers side dash looks like. There looks like a cubby but I don't think there is that much room behind the cover on mine.

And I didn't know Interceptors had 160mph speedos. I wonder what they are limited to.

At the price, if the body and interior are good, just be prepared for the cost of an engine, tranny, or rear diff, or any combination thereof.

It would be interesting to see how many hours are on the trip odometer (if it hasn't been reset) or if the computer stores engine hours, compared to the miles overall. It might be a low-idle-hours, all highway miles car. And WHICH state trooper barracks was it at? Upstate NY? Or here on Long Island? Decisions, decisions...

As to the speed limiting, and the speedo, I wonder if the PI driveshaft is different than the SHO's... remember the guy on the Autobahn losing the driveshaft at high speed.

It's priced according to the risk given you don't notice anything already on its way out inspecting it.

Doubtful that there is any difference in the drive shaft.

Unless you want it specifically because it is an interceptor, last time I looked you could buy lower mile SHO's in a similar price range. If it does appear well maintained and you can talk them down a fair bit, it might be a decent deal.

I've got a question for you guys. The police interceptor must be a model I've never seen because every Taurus police car I've seen between Ohio and N. California has been unlabeled or SEL. So, is there a certain state that uses the SHO?

Can't answer your question directly. A department could buy SHOs but they would all be consol shift and not column shift like P.I.s are.

Indirectly, you can I.D. a P.I. externally as it will not have the the white tube lights/fog lights in the bumper and it will have a hony comb grill, but it will be a thin flat black plastic. No chrome.

I know you can buy Taurus as a fleet vehicle but I don't know the combinations available.

On a side note, I have always felt the PI grille had much larger openings than the regular Taurus grille, no?

As someone who drives police fleet vehicles every day, I would not buy one, unless you know that it was individual-assigned instead of a pool vehicle. Common equipment does not fare well.

I’ve thought about swapping to the PI grill but with the lower grill matching the factory one I feel it’ll look strange with the PI on top and the lower having the chrome and smaller openings

Can't you get one in black? I see some PI's without the lower and some with a black lower grill
