UPDATE: I guess you need a DVD....if you have SYNC 2 then you have a SD card.

Look in your center console and look for the SD card. Pull it out and see what number is on it. A10 is the lastest update.

Whenever I've updated the NAV in my 2010, I have ALWAYS been forced to purchase the DVD in order to perform the update.

Yes, the price is stupid ridiculous.

I've only updated twice since purchasing the car new, as I tend to rely more so on Google Maps via my mobile device.

The car companies are knocking themselves out bringing products like this to the car purchaser, only to be overshadowed by independent companies that do it for way less money.

The autonomous driving options are in the same boat, very expensive from the manufacturers, but available elsewhere. See comma.ai for a look at how things can be done. This system is in its infancy now, but the potential is there.

No more agonizing decisions like can I have the PP option, or is the autonomous feature a better way to go.

Depending on the modle year of your car, gen 3 system navigation map updates may be free. I forget what the cut off is.

On gen 3 systems you have to purchase the software specific to your car/APIM and update maps similar to the SYNC updates. Sync and map updates are not the same in gen 3 systems.

But since you can use android auto and apple car play it's kinda mute unless you dont have a smart phone.
