Hey, new here. Couldn't figure out where to post and also I have never been apart of any forum group ever so I don't know where to post what or whats allowed but anyway. I am not A new SHO owner, I've been fascinated since I got my first car (1992 Taurus GL) and read up about them. Since then I've own 4 Taurus SHO's. I have an 1989 now but it proves too much work, more than I thought and I just can't. I have found A 1992 online that I'm very very tempted about, fantastic condition. Only problem is I'd like this one to be my last one that I keep forever, while I owned two 2nd Gen SHOs and loved them I am definitely A bigger fan of the 1st Gen body style. The car I'm looking at is from A dealership so it's costly but clean, low miles, warranty and everything so It'll be for the long haul and I'm gonna want to have it looking how I want it.

How easy is it to fit 1st Gen body parts on A 2nd Gen SHO?
What are all the things I would have to change for front and rear bumper and side skirt?
What is the estimated cost so I know if this will be worth it?

Welcome, Timothy.

You will find the bumper exchange project to be very daunting. The front fender design is significantly different from Gen1 to Gen2, so it will be quite difficult to make the Gen1 bumper fit - like cutting and welding fenders, etc. The rear bumper may be somewhat easier, but I have not really looked into that. My estimate of the cost is higher than what you are paying for the car.

Thank you for the response, knowing that that will be A harder, more costly than I would have assumed task I've decided to pass on the vehicle. Best to wait for the right canvas.

I would say either continue to shop for a GenI in the condition you want or settle for a GenII in great condition (which is what I had to do. didn't want a GenII or a green one especially, but the condition and price was too good to pass up)

Welcome! I would wait as well for the right Gen 1 to come along. Are you considering traveling a bit to get the right car. Take a look at the Sho Finds section on this forum. Nice cars pop up every now and then. Are you looking for a stock only car or is some mods okay? George Forchy had his Gen 1 up for sale, not sure if he sold it yet, but he is on the west coast. His car, Black Diamond seem to win Best Paint at the car conventions he attended.

Some mods are okay. I might do A few more mods depending. I'm not trying to make A track car but where I live we have TONS of lowered, cambered, VW kids. A lot of slammed old BMWs and some Audis in that group as well. All running loud as **** exhaust and zipping around. I earned some respect back when I had my 1989, just had aftermarket flywheel, clutch, and coil overs I believe. Oh and the Borla exhaust, that's how I bought it, haha It was my first stick car actually so I got a crash course on stick shift driving it the two hours home. Became my favorite car I've ever owned in A heartbeat, the feel, the power. Had so much guts but wasn't over the top. I'm not looking to try keeping paces with corvettes or anything, I want to maintain it as my very well kept daily or semi-daily for A bit, but I do want it to show it's colors on occasion and catch some eyes, get the respect the car has always deserved. I do think I'm willing to travel, or at least definitely willing to consider upon the vehicle. However, the west coast is probably just too far out of my range unfortunately.

I had to get my last car (around 60k miles on it) shipped from Indiana to southeast Virginia. The shipping was certainly extra however I would not recommend a GenI/II SHO as a daily driver unless you are very good with a wrench or get one in near immaculate condition. We are starting to see problems more frequently that fall outside the usual sensor failure and bad seals/plugs/wires due to age of components and/or 25 years of use. If you are looking for a low mile local car then that will be a waiting game. I had a waiting game, and had to get it shipped, and it's a second vehicle.

I understand, makes sense, the prices seem to be going up and I'm seeing less and less of them. As for it being A non-daily, they just drive so well. However I likely won't sell my current car and it would share the miles. I have A well taken care of 1990 Cavalier with 80k miles, I don't drive excessively and I have A short commute to work. In the end I welcome more things going bad on an SHO (Mind I'd prefer them all not happen at once haha). I look at it as why ever just replace something when you could spend the few extra dollars for higher quality which is what I intend every time something goes wrong. My father had an Oldsmomible 442, 70 Chevelle ss, and finally A 1969 Camaro he built the engine for. Total classics now garage kept only taken out on summer days, I'm 25 now, and so I've chosen that I'd like an SHO to drive semi-daily and continue working on until I'm, I don't know, say 40 where I'll retire it and only take it out on summer days. So I suppose I'll wait as long as I have to and keep checking back here and there.
