Hey all! I'm looking for a pair of mufflers for my sho that give it a great sound. I don't want the rich soubd, but more of a throaty sound. I don't want it to scream but would like it to be somewhat loud. I don't want to spend a lot of money. Just looking for a decent. Sounding muffler. Any ideas or opinions would help.
Thanks, Trent

Yes, stock. Even with a stock catback my car is raspy around 4k. I assume its caused by the aftermarket catted y-pipe.

Stainless Magnaflow mufflers sound good: SHO Source

It really starts from the cats on up. Changing the y-pipe and catback also contribute to the sound a lot.

although i have never heard it myself the stock mufflers from the 05+ mustang gt is a nice upgrade. Im looking for some mufflers and hoping some come across craigslist from someone upgrading their mustang then it will be a y pipe.

Get a magnaflow 18" resonator if you are going to change the stock mufflers

I have a Borla cat-back on my 95 and think it sounds pretty good. We'll see if I still feel the same way after I put the y-pipe on...

A Catted FPS (Stainless Steel) Y-Pipe with a good Stainless Steel catback sounds good. Ashley's car has the FPS Y-Pipe with the Borla Catback. Before the Borla Started leaking and turned in to a total pile of crap, the car sounded GREAT with no Rasp. Now, After being on the car for 15+ years the Borla is leaking (after being repaired more then once) and the car has returned to sounding like shit.

I have mufflers from a 2011 Mustang GT, not sure if those can be used on a SHO. Anyone know?

Will they work? Well they are mufflers aren't they? Get welding and make 'em fit!

OP: If you want something cheap I've seen Mustang mufflers for as cheap as 40 bucks a pair on craigslist. Buy those and a big resonator to cut down the rasp and it should sound pretty good. At 40 or so bucks you aren't risking much.

I picked up a used SHOShop y-pipe from another member, but the cats have been gutted so I'm sure there will be some rasp. I'm going to try to put it on soon. If I don't like it I may see about replacing the cats if possible. Any suggestions on inexpensive (not necessarily CHEAP) replacement cats?

Borla's sound good, also Edelbrock Performers on MTX cars, but don't think they're available any more. I put a set of 05 Mustang GT mufflers on an ATX car, didn't really like the sound. Might be ok on an MTX though.

I also have the 06 mustang GT mufflers, to much rasp. I was thinking of either the 6cy Mustang mufflers or a 350Z muffler.

Forums user cmichaelo had hands down, the best exhaust system. It was a custom job and costs way more than just replacing the mufflers, but the sound was incredible. Absolutely no rasp through the entire rev range. It was more of an extension of the engine's sound rather than just making some loud noise. Mean as ****. I wish SHOs came out from the factory with his exhaust.

Yeah I would have to say that's one of the best systems I've heard.
I was home from college over the weekend and I got to drive my SHO for the first time in 6 weeks. It's raspier than I remembered.
