Purchased this set of wheels today as a winter set to be paired with Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires.

The Pirelli All Season tires they came with are sized 235/50-18. However, the factory tire size for the standard Taurus wheels (also 18x8, ET40 offset) is 235/55-18.

When searching for Nokian tires sized 235/55-18 I am seeing only an "SUV" option. From what I've researched so far, it seems that load rating is the only notable difference...but information on this isn't too concrete.

Thoughts?

Are you certain those will clear the brake caliper?

The two tire sizes are about 3.4% apart, so there is a bit of effect on the odo, can be recitified with Forscan for Windows I believe.

SUV rating should be fine. The Taurus is as heavy as a midsized SUV anyway.

Thank you for the info & sanity check. I'm considering going with a 235/60-18 over the 235/55-18. Same price, a bit more cushion and will somewhat negate the speedometer error.

I can confirm that these clear the caliper with ease. From what I gathered, there are 17" Mustang wheels that will clear as well, but these 18" wheels were the best deal I saw on CL/eBay and I wanted to play it safe by sticking to a factory size for the Taurus (18x8).
