Noise from accessory belt area, what is it?

Is it possible to replace only the bearing of the idler pully? It looks like it could be pressed out. (If it does not fall out on it's own..) 1stGenSHO

    Still Having MTX problems......

I'm assuming it currently has ATX fluid in it? (I only ask because I've had mechanics offer to top off the MTX with 90 weight lube!) If the fluid is ok, it sounds like the trans may have been ran low on fluid. Does it get worse after it heats up? 1stGenSHO

    Back firing and hard starting....sometimes

Sounds like the Camshaft ID sensor could be going bad. These symptoms are typical when the sensor is disconnected also. 1stGenSHO

    Testing the coil pack

Hello Everyone, Does anyone know if there is a procedure to test the coil pack using an ohm-meter? Chiltons seems to skip it for the SHO. Thanks, 1stGenSHO

Smog Check Failed? NO too high... suggestions?

GEN1SHO, I just failed my smog check in Arizona for the same exact thing in my '90 SHO. Although mine is bone stock, the cause is the cats. After 12 years of abuse they have given up. If you don't want to replace the whole Y-pipe you should be able to have new cats welded in for much less $...

    Converting A/C to R134

ProjectSHO89, I'm prety sure it's munched. When the A/C quit it made a terrible grinding noise and the belt squeeled awhile before the clutch released (engine was slightly above 3k rpm). At startup I can get the clutch to engage once, but it sounds like the compressor is grinding rocks and the...

    Converting A/C to R134

Thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate your advice. I think the car is beyond a conversion kit though, and because it is still charged with R12 I will take it to a shop. (A/C clutch engages but cannot rotate compressor at any rpm.) Because of the dead compressor, I'm assuming other...

    Converting A/C to R134

Has anyone coverted their A/C system to R134 recently? I am trying to get a ballpark figure before contacting some shops. My compressor (R12) locked up while cruising on the freeway and I figure that changing to R134 at this point would not be much more. Thanks, 1stGenSHO

My 90 runs too hot with the AC on?

There is something wrong with your cooling system. I run around Phx,Az in my '90 and do not have problems. I'm still running R12 for the A/C, but I don't think that would make a difference. If the fan is running ok, it's probably the radiator or thermostat. Good luck. 1stGenSHO

No Tachometer - Is it the CPS or CID?

I have used the Autozone CPS and CID sensors with no problem on my '90. I have never heard of one of these sensors going without the car running like crap though. Check out that tach before you go through the trouble of replacing a sensor that is probably ok. 1stGenSHO

    Oil Pan Gaskets

I just purchased that same set from carparts.com. It includes the two rubber end seals plus two tubes of the black RTV. 1stGenSHO

    STRUTS

I'm also thinking of replacing the springs&struts on my '90. I know it needs struts, but not sure about the springs. The rear end is sagging a bit, but it is level and I like the look. Will new springs with a stock ride height raise the rear so the car does not sit parallel to the ground? If so...

More than likely something was not re-connected. The cable on mine was left undone at the throttle body. 1stGenSHO

    Removing Window Tint

The side windows are pretty easy. A water/vinegar solution or Windex will help it peel away, but it will most likely come off in pieces. If you scrape the rear window, watch the leads for the defroster as they can be damaged in the process. 1stGenSHO

    A/C question

When this happened to my '90 the compressor/cluth were fine but a small leak had drained the R12 out of the system. To avoid damage, the compressor will not engage if it is not charged properly. You most likely will have to go to an A/C shop to find out. 1stGenSHO

    RPMs

I've had no problems shifting occasingly at 6.5k rpms in my '90. I think the engine will handle it fine as long as the maint is kept up. It's the accessories I worry about. Does anyone know if the A/C will cut out at high RPM's or does it only repsond to the throttle position? 1stGenSHO

Puff of blue smoke on start - Reason?

My '90 started the same thing at 150k, and I too thought it had to be the valve seals and rebuilding the heads were the only solution. Before I got the $ put together for the heads rebuild (about $1k), I ended up removing the upper intake and cleaning it out. (Removed it for a different reason...

Ohm -resistance in spark plug wires?

I have not seen a specification for the SHO, but other DIS systems allow for 1k Ohms of resistance per inch of cable. Therefore a 10 inch spark plug cable would be allowed 10k Ohms before rendering the ignition system unreliable. Ofcourse, lower resistance would always be a plus. Again, it may...
