Yeah there are. If you're going to be downtown definitely check out the Reading Terminal Market for lunch like PAracer said. While you're there, be sure to get a roast pork sandwich with "cheese and hots" at Dinic's. If you're in the mood for shopping and can't make the time for a trip out to King of Prussia, there is the Gallery downtown at 8th and Race, and the Franklin Mills 20 mins away. Also, if they haven't closed for the winter yet, check out Franklin's Fountain at Front and Market. They are an authentic 50s style soda fountain shop and they have the best root beer float you'll ever taste. If you feel like checking out Chinatown, you have to stop by Sang Kee Duck House (aka "The Noodle House"). A roast duck meal for 2 is only $20, and their selection of noodle dishes are the best you'll ever have (all large portions, and all below $10 each). Besides all the regular sights like the Liberty Bell and Museum of Art, there's also the Mutter Museum (weird medical things like babies born with bat wings, and you walk thru a once living person's distended intestines like a tunnel, etc.) and Maritime Museum. Also, it's only a bridge hop over to attractions in New Jersey, like a 30 minute drive into Vineland for double feature drive-in movies at the Delsea Drive-In Theater. That's not even half of it...

If you're into all the cheesy Philadelphia food exclusives, don't go for the obvious tourist places like Geno's. For cheesesteaks, head to Steve's Prince or Frusco's in the northeast. For soft pretzels, hit up any of the Soft Pretzel Factories. If you've never had a Tastykake, the best place to get the full experience is take a tour of the factory, or you can just hit up a Wawa or 7-11. If you like Scrapple, get a scrapple/pork roll/egg/cheese breakfast sandwich at any one of those lunch carts downtown. The list can go on and on...

If you need a bunch of guys to hang with you or show you places, I know at least 2 other SHO guys (in their late 20s/early 30s) who might be free other than me. Brendan (waterclown) and I hang out almost every other day, and he lives in S. Philly and I live up in the NE, and we can both easily travel anywhere in the area you want to go. Feel free to give me a call or text at (215) 828-2033 - name's Alex. I'm available all day Wednesday, Thursday before 5PM, anytime after 2PM on Friday, and should find out when I'm free on Saturday sometime tonight or early tomorrow.

This is hilarious. It's no wonder Philly has a reputation for being fat. Everything that's fun and worth seeing has to do with food. For good reason, though. We've got the best food in the country.

Yeah both are true. Just take a look at Ben Franklin. Quite the jolly guy - and had the look of a well fed dude to me.

as of right now (4:30am) i'm in harrisburg (sort of at 40.32N x76.490W, Newberry township, parked at some bar) i wont get back into town till about 7am, but i should be up and moving around by noonish. I'm staying in center city off of I76/valleyforge and city ave exit) at the crowne plaza. last night i was in philly off of wyoming and rising sun (7-11 on the corner was only place open and lit up.) watched numerous crackheads get arrested, watched a highspeed chase go up front steet towards roosevelt in the wrong direction of the one way. and then finished my night off with watching a drunk park his car with the engine running on the west side of the building and then pass out and put it in drive and slam into the 7-11, then put it in reverse and slam into the rite-aid across rising sun from 7-11 deploy the airbag and shatter the back window and then take off 30 seconds before a cop shows up to get some coffee. :munch::snicker:

the numbers i can be reached at are as follows:
personal cell 623-986-2140
test phone 916-865-8201
you can also send email because i have a blackberry so it comes to me like text messages.

^ Sounds like you're watching an episode of Cops...lol

if it was cops, someone would have had a mullet or no shirt. everyone was clothed and black so... all the crackheads that hang out there think i'm an undercover cop since i have a blackberry, an iphone 3g, an LG shine, and an LGCU500u lit up and running two laptops (Dell XPS1730 running GPS asus EEE pc9h for mobile internet aircard) and a gps on the windshield, a police scanner, and my 10mm and .45 gap (for the unfriendly crackheads...).

i just remember having to test in LA a few times and learned it is good to have a concealed carry with reciprocation with 2/3rds of the 50 states. cops and gas station owners love me. i'm a theft deterrent because i have at least one open line with EMS open every 10min, more crap lit up than 10 tweakers with torches and two very loud very cop looking guns.

Damn dude... what kind of work do you do?

i've had a lot of different jobs over the years, I used to do bail enforcement and recovery, hence the CCW's from MN, NM, AZ, CA, UT, WI, and FL

PA reciprocates with FL for CCWs, my florida license doesn't expire till 2011.

however, i cannot conceal in new jersey or new york. like MN and wisconsin they only reckognize their own, same with cali and colorado.

pain in the ass of it is though, i had to call and verify with a gunstore in PA to drop off ammo at the hotel for me since everything around here closes at 6 or so, that was **** and a half... had to practically sign over my first born and guarantee the hotel would lock it in their safe till i picked it up. can fly with a gun checked. but not ammo.

last year i became an apprentice with the AZ LU 1607 millwrights. thats my normal job, its really slow with the economy being ****** so no millwright work lately.

the job i'm in PA for is for a company that tests cell reception for calls and data tranfer (youtube videos and text/pix messaging for example). i also test the GPS locating for when you call into 911 to make sure they can see where you are and that you aren't getting boston or newark 911 in philly.

its a cool gig, pays good, i get to travel and its easy as **** (sit around all night playing with a laptop and driving)

i like it :)

Sounds like fun... sometimes. Let us know if you're ever in the DC area, though Philly is not that far from us.

little too far to traipse down on this trip... maybe after the first of the year.

who knows maybe at&t will pitch the company i work for a contract in DC area.

to be honest though, i love the archetecture and the trees, grass, hills, river valleys and such, but Philly is dirty as ****, as is most of the east coast cities i've ever been to. and the way your roads are set up is freaking annoying at best... granted almost all of the roads around here were probably surveyed 200 years ago, and are narrow as **** because the buildings were built so close together but damn... i miss phoenix already. surface streets there are 3 lanes either direction with a left turn lane down the middle, intersections are well lit with big traffic lights, and the street signs are easily seen and painted with reflective paint. i dont know what kind of ******** DOT ya'll got, but its pretty bad when i cant even read a sign from 10 feet away because the light is burned out or nonexistant, i cant see the traffic light because it's literally directly behind some business' adverts, and i gotta slam on my brakes to avoid running a red and getting t boned by tyrone and the homies in their buick roadmaster. also, what the F is up with the lack of 24hour check cashing facilities? or people that cant decide what lane they want to be in. or people going 10 or less in the left lane. granted its inclement weather but if you wanna drive slow, move over to the right with the rest of the ******* that can't handle a little precipitation. it is a huge pet peeve of mine when someone is in the left lane pacing the cars in the right lane and i have been flashing my brights for 1/2 a mile... damn yankee drivers.:snicker:

Phoenix is flat.... South Florida is the same way. 3 lanes in either direction and few stop lights. Welcome to the east coast. Where the roads suck and people cannot drive for shit.

LOL. I felt for you when you said you had to take 76 W. Good thing your hotel exit was right before it hits the worst stretch on my way down. That's why it's nicknamed the "Surekill" Expressway around here. It's only 2 lanes, no shoulder, rocks are falling on your car from the cliffs on either side, and you're crawling along 2 mph stopping suddenly every 10 ft, caught behind a dogcatcher van you can't see around, and a semi is barreling down on your ass from behind. Accidents happen every 2 days in just that 2 mile stretch west of your hotel.

Hopefully some of the other guys will show up next time other than me and a few fellow **********, and they're all better at showing people around the city than I am. I'll look for my camera too if you're up for checking out the historic section. It'd be great if we run into the Ben Franklin impersonator, he's a riot. And maybe I'll get that angle of the Penn statue holding his **** on top of city hall. Unfortunately, Brendan will only be free for sure on Friday which may be too late, and tomorrow is hit or miss. Good luck in Deptford tonite.

dude... jersey was lame... took me a half hour to find an open gas station at 2am, the mall security was busting my balls for being parked there till the 5-0 rolled up to check me out. when i site tested the 911 at around midnight i asked if they could radio the unit(s) in the vicinity and give em a discription of me and my vehicle and inform em of what I was up to. clearly glouster county sherrifs get bored around midnight they yakked my ear off for 45min with the security guards too. got done there, went to camden, then went to effing delaware... just got back a bit ago. i'm gonna text you but i'll be up and running around 3-4 again. hopefully no fire drills at the hotel today.

i'll swing up to NE side of town in the rent a pony and we can go.

thanks for hanging out by the way. it sure beats sitting in the room and watching TV. we're definitely going to get food.
