Fuel Injector Stuck Open ಠ_ಠ

So the shop I took my 2013 PP 87K miles to said that the injector on cylinder 6 is stuck wide open.

1. Is that common for these vehicles?

2. 1,000 miles ago the dealer replaced the recalled fuel pump module and cleaned the injectors and throttle body, could this failure be related and is it worth calling the dealer?

3. What parts/work needs to be done to fix the stuck injector? Any estimates on what the cost should be?

Shop wants $1,250 to replace the set of 3 (they don't have the tools to replace just one) or $2,000 to replace all 6 injectors. Since the injectors are troublesome, does it make sense to just get all 6 replaced?

I also called the local dealer to have them replace just one and they wanted $1,100

I would consider buying the injectors and installing them yourself if you have the means.

Coincidences happen. That being said, it is a pretty big coincidence that they cleaned the injectors and throttle body, then an injector stuck open. Dislodged carbon? No good deed...

I'd want that injector back for an autopsy!

I’m not entirely sure. They said that it required special tools to pull one injector but If they pulled the rail containing all 3 then the tool wasn’t necessary. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dealer quoted me 3200 to replace all six. I had an independent shop do all six for 1600, but the dude stripped out 3 of my coil pack bolts.

Definitely do all six at once. Last I checked you could get motorcrafts for a little over $100 each. If you are mechanically inclined do it yourself, it's a couple hour job and there are youtube videos out there on removing the intake manifold. Once that is off the fuel rails are right there.

If I had it to do over I would for sure do it myself and save almost a grand of cash.

That is what I thought until I looked up the procedure. Quite different from any port injection system I have worked with. It involves a "special" tool slide hammer to pull the injector out. Then there is a teflon seal to be cut off and replaced. Installing the teflon seal requires another "special" tool. It appears recommended procedure is to replace all 3 from a bank at once and the rail and injectors go in as an assembly. It is a 4 hour job per bank or 5 hours for both sides according to book time.

Got a set of 6 ANSU tested, matched and rebuilt injectors for my 2010 PP. Installed them myself. Set cost 112.00 bucks. Took about 4 hours to replace all 6. Engine is way smoother now too. No snap, crackles and pops coming off a hard acceleration
too.

You don't need any special tools to do the injectors. They are ******* you on price. The injectors are like $600 for the set and you just have to pull the intake manifold to do them. i could do a whole set in an hour with a beer break.

Well, cost me $2K to replace all 6 with oil change from my local shop. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I used to feel bad about paying that much until I got my $8K bill for going to the ER due to some weird long-covid symptoms. haha. much crying....

What tools did you use to replace the injectors?

I have air tools. Disconnect battery.
8mm socket, 10 mm socket, drain some radiator fluid, undo about 5 hoses and disconnect hose from throttle body. Disconnect vacuum lines and fuel lines and sensors.
Pull manifold off.
Then, remove the 10 mm bolts for the fuel rails. Carefully pry up on the fuel rail, one at a time. Injectors come off by pulling and twisting them pretty easy after removing spring clips. Disconnect electrical injector plugs. Then, put ‘re back together in reverse order. Engine is way smoother with a matched and tested set.

No heavy lifting needed. Just detailed attention. I'm going to install a ANSU matched set of 6ea injectors on my 2011 SHO next and video it this time. Should be easier the second time. I changed 4 injectors on my 2000 Ford Focus in less than an hour! But, the fuel rail was right on top of the engine and not buried under the intake manifold. I changed my Rack and Pinion the other day in 3.5 hours. So, on a roll.....

No special tool. Just used a flat blade to pry up on the fuel rails, gently and working each end a little at a time.
