Hi Everybody! New 2014 non-PP owner...

Hi all!

I recently picked up a 2014 non-PP SHO as a replacement for an aging Ford Edge, and I couldn't be happier. I've only had it a day, and already run through a tank and a half of premium just driving around. I'd been deciding between this and a S550 Mustang GT Premium, and this is really the car that fits my needs best, and I'm loving it as it's a great commuter vehicle, can carry all my stuff (family), and gets out of it's own way with (sometimes) alarming alacrity. It's like Kevin Spacey's line from American Beauty, "It's the car I always wanted, and now I have it." Its the vehicle I never knew I needed, and I can say in all honesty that I'm supremely satisfied with my purchase

Welcome to the SHO. I would change all of the major fluids ASAP. Engine Oil, PTU Fluid, Coolant, and then I would start the 5 out 5 in method of trans fluid cycling. All have been documented in the first couple posts of the the below thread.

Just wait until you decide to start modding and tune it. From a dig you will hurt most 550 GT's you come across.

HA! I was _just_ reading your thread. Thanks for the very welcome information, and keeping it all in one place. The car has a K&N drop-in and pipe, but the install was half-assed, so it's likely the first thing I replace other than the tune. I've already scheduled a trip to my local mechanic to get all the fluids done. I've bought enough used cars to know it's the extra $1K you're going to drop just getting the car back to fighting strength.

I'd love to post a few pics, but I'm honestly a little embarrassed regarding its condition; the paint on at least two wheels is flaking off due to silly amounts of road rash (they're all getting swapped eventually), and it desperately needs a bath after all the rain we've had in North Texas. Once it's clean and shiny I'll throw some into this thread unless there's a better place for it.

You're going to love this car. Don't let your mechanic talk you out of RDU and PTU fluids. They're not lifetime fluids regardless of what Ford says. If you decide to change them yourself there are plenty of threads about them in this forum.

Mine was sold as a pp car, asking 13,500. I haggled down to 12,500, then got 2k trade in on my 05 civic.

Got it home. And realized its not a pp car, now trying to get the dealership to cough out 500 bucks.

Exchange the money for fluid replacement, that's where you will spend it anyway and buy an extended warranty.

In this scenario I'd say take the money and trade it to someone else for fluids. Once someone has lied to me (especially a dealer) there's no chance I'd trust them to do any work on my car. Especially if they're doing it for free.

WARRANTY! Ford ESP warranty is a life saver. I got mine at 97,000 miles and it covers everything til 133,000 or something. I've already replaced a PTU, sway bar end link, and a oil pressure switch. I only paid my deductible, $200, and all three things were done at once.
Shop around for ESP warranties, I bought mine from Lombard Ford or something. It doesn't matter what dealer sells it to you, it is good at any dealer. Local dealer wanted $3500 for the warranty, Lombard was $1280
