My water pump went bad and since it's inside the engine all the coolant went into the oil pan. Engine is shot, will cost $11,000 to replace it which is twice the trade-in value of a running car. Dealer will give $500-$1000 for trade-in.

Would it make more sense to keep it and try to part it out? I'm no mechanic but I have installed up pipes, turbo, dp, intercooler and other bolt-ons before.
Do you think there would be enough interest locally to make it worthwhile?
Does the tranny have value?
How do you get rid of the remainder of the car that you have left and what's the cost?

Thanks guys.

Absolutely worth parting it out.

Especially given your own predicted "value" of $750.

Not sure what a used trans will garner you, but you could consider donating it (as a tax write off, and the betterment of the platform) to one of the vendors for inspection for potential upgrades.

Even still, you'll recoup plenty of money for selling off the remainder of the parts, and go fast goodies for a profit.

Used engines can be had for as little as $1,000. Buy engine, hire trusted redneck to pull and replace, might get her competely done for $2,000. I just posted a how to for engine pull for this generation.
Depending on your location and condition, and price are right i may be interested in buying it?

I agree w/ MustangKR500. In this part of the country there are a bunch of shops with likely illegals that will do that swap for a grand in labor. You can find an engine for less than $3k for sure, which makes it worth fixing.

Are completely sure the engine is shot?
A friend of mine owns a 2010 Taurus, same happened to him to the point were the engine shut off to protect itself.
Took it to a shop I recommended as he couldn't find anyone that wanted to tackle that kind of repair. Long story short the engine survived, new water pump, timing chain guides (IIRC), some seals and was good to go. This was about a year ago and it is still going, no knocking or issues. Spent about $1400 CAD in parts and labor.

I’m sure the $11000 price tag is from the dealer. As said before shop around independent shops and see what quotes you can get. I bet you can get about $2k just putting the car up on Craigslist as a project car with blown engine. Parting out will net you the most money but it’s going to take along time and the most work. I don’t see a ******** community with these cars like parting out a mustang for example.

Just want to be clear...
When i said redneck, i didnt mean illegal immigrant. If you wa t a visual picture of the "redneck" i was envisioning, think Joe Dirt.

I do however second the motion to MAGA!
