2011 PP with Livernois tune. 103,000 miles. New Engine/turbos-Ford replaced 12,000 miles ago, extended warranty. In drive, car shudders/shakes at low rpm when accelerating, 3-4th gear only. Nothing while hard accelerating. Manual shifting relieves the prob but still happens occasionally. Annoying. Trans fluid serviced at dealer, no effect. 3 bar MAP installed, as suggested in another post, no effect. Brother in-law says its definitely the torque converter. Another post here says they almost never fail. Have not taken to dealer or another garage yet, I wanted to get opinions here first. I am no mechanic, so please reply in simple speak-sorry!

If it were my car, I would swap the car back to stock programming and MAP and diagnose from there. That is if those parts and stock tune are available to you to switch back and forth.

Yes, do this first before bringing to the dealer. I was unleashed tune when I noticed it first (knew it wasnt tune related, just happened to be when I first noticed it) and I went back to stock fairly quickly and it was much less harsh (less power) but it will give the car key "cycle" times so that the dealer wont think it was tuned prior.

Thanks, I still have stock tune and 2 bar. Problem same with or without tune and stock parts. Good looking out!

Yeah, just eliminate variables and potential issues first and proceed from there. Plus if you are under warranty cover your **** before you let people poke around.

Check your upper transmission engine mount. The fact that you only have the shudder in certain situations makes we wonder if it is the torque converter. When my converter failed, I had issues across all gears. When I replaced my converter, I discovered that the upper mount was damaged (one of the two rubber arms inside the bushing had cracked apart), allowing a lot of engine movement and under high load conditions, I'm positive it was also causing a lot of unwanted shuddering and vibration beyond the torque converter issue.

So.... I decided on the advice of a friend and tried a product called "Dr Tranny" . 2oz transmission fluid additive. 1 mile later and no shudder. None. Now, next question, did that just fix the problem or band aid it? Does it mean that there is a problem with the TC?

Lol I used this stuff, worked amazing!.....for a few weeks than the shudder came back. Just a band aid, but sounds like the TC to me. Good luck!

Slo,
Did you replace the TC at the dealer? I called my Ford dealer just to see what they would quote, $3800! Sounds high to me but just curious, whats your opinion?

Sadly, it's not a cheap repair. The part is only ~$350 but it's a 10hr job. I did get my TC replaced but I luckily had a warranty with $100 deductible. That $3800 seems a little too high, even if it's a few hundred bucks. If you have any other ford dealers in the area see what they quote you at. Could see what your local guy says too.

How did they service the trans fluid? Did they suction it out and replace it?
