^^^^^ Good advice!
No matter how complicated engines become, bad head gaskets are usually accompanied by some combination of strange smells, overheating, loss of compression, and / or coolant pressure loss.
They should be able to tell you what one or two cylinders are affected if it is truly a head gasket.

Well I got a 3rd opinion and yes it needs an engine. He said he did a test to see if fuel was present in the coolant and it was positive for fuel mixing with coolant. The reason I was unable to detect it was because he said it may be mixing or whatever on top of the engine somewhere and that's why its smoking trying to burn off water or something. But anyways found an 2012 3.5 ecoboost engine with 48k miles for an amazing price. I just need to know does it matter the year engine we put in it? It I'm sure she should run like a beast with a lower milage engine and 2 brand new turbos.

Well guys I took it to another shop here in Columbus Ohio (not a certified Lincoln or ford shop) but it says their techs are certified, anyways they're saying it has an blown head gasket (replacement of engine now) they said they did a chemical test of some sort and I'm guessing this is how they came up with their solution. So I guess I'll be replacing the entire engine but I'm still confused because we heard no engine noise and no smell of coolant from exhuast only the oil/carbon smell. The tech also said the turbos being shot wouldn't cause the car to run rough, I would just be experiencing no boosting. Idk im kinda confused now. Smh

A blown head gasket between cylinders would cause a noise similar to a rod knock.
A blown head gasket into the water jacket should contaminate the coolant. That might be the test you are referring to.
In either case it should be repairable W/O replacing the complete engine.
Since the engine needs to be dropped out the bottom a lift would be required for complete an engine swap.

Ryan, Be sure the engine is a T code engine as many sellers will try to tell you the non turbo and the turbo 3.5 are the same.
from what I read the 010-012 will interchange. Remember the turbo engine is direct injection.

Yes I have been confirming whether or not the engine is turbo or non turbo. And to go back on what you were saying about the problem being repaired, the tech said it would be cheaper to just replace the entire engine versus repairs because i would end up paying around the same price for either repair.

^^^This. If the engine is new, but I think they are referencing a used engine. In which case, I think it would be better to stick with what you have.
That is, unless you are not disclosing overheating the engine to the point where a lot of things have suffered (like the heads).

If you have a blown head gasket and it's still drivable and you don't smell coolant, can't they just replace the head gasket then clean out the engine or rebuild it etc? A new engine seems expensive and drastic to me. I wonder what their markup is on a replacement long block.

On the upside if you really DO have no good engine, Livernois is really close and IIRC they have some ******* long blocks for our cars! That's gotta be cheaper than a new ride.

Or HOT enough to seize the oil control ring.

No engine over heating of any sort. Just the results of the test and they said it was an top engine issue that's why detecting it the normal way was hard because the turbos were bad and causing smoking as well. But I ended up getting an 53k mile 2010 MKS ecoboost engine. Hopefully this will fix everything and have her running like she should.

Motor switch came out perfect, I have a new issue now lol my temp gauge stop working and it says engine is cold but it's definitely not after an hour of driving. Anyone have this problem before? And is it a dyi job?

I also have some used turbos for sale with 53k miles on them. If anyone needs them.

Good news!
Often, cars have a seperate sender for the gauge, with another sender feeding info to the computer.
Seems like your computer is happy, so look for the sender that your gauge uses, and swap it from your old motor.
