Morning all.

After 2 years of hating my '14 MKZ im thinking of biting the bullet and moving up to a '16 SHO. (Came from '08 Taurus before the Lincoln)

Having troubling finding what im looking for (for the right price) as inventory seems pretty limited (at least in Eastern PA/Jersey)

Looking at buying a pretty basic Black sho with the 401 audio, nav, sunroof and the taurus wheels. For some reason i absolutely hate the SHO wheels. I just cant get over them. I wouldnt mind the driver assist package but dont think i can justify the ~2k it costs. Also, pretty disappointed that there is no vista roof that is available like in the MKS.

Part of me says wait to next year as I think they would include that roof option, but Im really finding my 80 mile round trip commute to be annoying in the Lincoln. I know it is somewhat of a sin to put those kind of miles on a SHO but as far as a sedan goes that is roomie enough for the family and a baby seat and is something i wont want to drive into oncoming traffic during a commute it is either the SHO or a 60K+ Euro as far as im concerned (or a buick perhaps????)

Anyway, been lurking a bit here and just wanted to say hi and see if anyone had any advice or do's/dont's while shopping/pricing.

Thanks for any opinions.

I would get a lower milage 2013-2014 SHO and change the wheels out. Since you are going to be putting big mileage on the car, buying new doesn't seem like a smart idea. You are going to quickly approach the miles of a used SHO within 9 months of ownership and your car will age by the mileage based on your driving habits and not by time passing. You can save your self a bundle by spotting 2-3 years of age on car that has had zero updates since 2013.

why not buy a MKS, then you get the big roof that you like. you also get a little smaller console so there is more room in the car and more goodies. and, if you buy a CPO you get bumper to bumper warranty for 6 years/100k miles.

Maybe ill take another look at them but I really dont like their front end. I think the SHO style is much nicer (but ill check them out again). Also a new SHO is a bit out of my price range or at the very top ATM. Probably going to wait for some better FORD incentives to buy. So a lincoln to similar specs will likely be out of my price range.

As for the suggestions on looking for used/cpo I think that makes sense. Ill have to check out inventory around me.

Thanks for the opinions.

If you are lucky, there may be some new '15s on some lots. I got mine in January and it was a steal and if I remember correctly someone just picked up a new '15 in he last week or so that is on the forum.

Low mileage used is the way to go. As others have stated. The values of these cars in the first couple years plummets off a cliff.

Hah, yeah, considering im seeing offer for 17-18K on my 14 MKZ the trade in struggle is real.

Thanks for all the tips here. I started looking for used and new '15 within 100 miles.

What would you all look for off MSRP for a new '15. I saw another user post that they were ~10K under msrp and some replies saying to try for more than that at this point?

Sure... Sync 3 would be nice but not for 5k+...

just realized my earlier post may not have been clear - CPO Lincoln is bumper to bumper for 6 yr / 100k miles. CPO Ford is drivetrain to 6 yr / 100k miles.

Carmax will often give more money on trade than other dealers, because their business model does not depend on front end gross - they make their money on financing/warranties/etc.

Lincoln was still shipping 15 MKS in January, so it is likely that you can find a 15 if you search. Ford will have more incentives than Lincoln on the new ones (no $10k off on a Lincoln, sorry)...

P.S> what do you hate about your MKZ?

Im a bigger guy ~6'-3" and feel pretty cramped in it. With my seat position the backseat is nearly unusable. (maybe 4-6" of leg space?) and even the passenger side with the seat moved up leaves little rear seat space. (oddly i have read that the SHO's back seat could be more cramped than the fusions but in test driving a '16 SHO it has MUCH more room than my 14 MKZ)

I feel every bump in the road. like... every single bump.

At around 80mph the car gets a rattle/hum and has not been resolved through numerous attempts from the dealer. (the real bitch is my 80mile roundtrip commute is done mostly at 75-80mph) If i go 70 its not there. If i go 90 its not there. I guess i should just drive 90 every day... (super annoying)

Sound system is MEH

It has terrible, TERRIBLE blind spots (for me). Again, this could be due to my size and seat position but I really struggle seeing my left (drive side) blindspot or rear passenger blind spot. The columns (between front and rear door or between rear door and rear windshield) are very wide and i struggle to see around them. I just dont seem to be able to adjust to the blindspot mirrors and they are no help for the rear blindspot (kind of hard ot explain, but bottom line is I cant see shit in the car).

I don't like being so low to the ground.

It is terrible in the rain (vision and handling)

Completely forget about snow... worst FWD i ever drove in any snow.

It just doesnt feel like "luxury". It is a bunch of small things that add up to my commute being miserable and every day i hate it more and more. So much that im now considering a 15K hit on trade in value.

My '08 taurus limited was superior in every measurable way other than technology.

The eco 4 motor is nice is has a good amount of power. Gas mileage is just ok. 20-25mpg.

So a question about wheels. I searched the forum a bit and didnt see anything jump out at me. Please direct me if this has been covered in depth.

I may have found some potential in a '15 SHO about 100 miles away with basically everything im looking for. (Tux Black on grey, 401A, Moon roof, Voice nav and it has the driver assist which, as mentioned above, would like if the price was right but could do without). Talking now but looking at around 10-12K off MSRP 35-36K.

It has the "flower" wheels. Is that what you call them?
It sucks, but i really like the 20" taurus wheels and think they would look good on the SHO but beggars cant be choosers... right?
I just cant stand the flower wheels and am guessing Ill have to go aftermarket? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Wheels are all in the eye of beholder but those flower wheels just dont do it for me (not trying to offend anyone who enjoys them! :) )

They have 2 20" OEM offerings, I believe, starting with the 14-on, maybe you will like the other one, but Ford wheels are quite expensive to buy new/nearly new unless you get a firesale price. The 10-12 wheel is also an option. Looks really good with PVD Chrome, or painted accents.

TSW has many offerings that people like and have put on their SHOs, the Nurburgring being the one that comes to mind immediately. Vossen wheels are also another nice option. What price range are you looking for?

Right, the 2nd picture is what Im calling the'flower wheel' and dont care for. The 3rd picture I have also seen on SHOs and i think look very nice (i believe those are the high end taurus wheels?), but yeah, I completely agree on the price of Ford wheels. They are not economical, so ideally I would like to find a SHO with the 3rd picture you have but they are few and far between and Im really being picky here in looking for a specific color/features/price and wheels on a '15 model...

Dumb question. Would a dealer every change out rims upon reuqest if they had a taurus on the lot with the wheels i preferred or is that a completely unrealistic request?

Re: aftermarket. Id be fine with something very similar to the 3rd picture or something with 5 spokes total. Cash will be tight after the purchase and i still dont know how I will explain to my wife that i need to by new rims for a new car.... so as cheap as possible for price range.

Thanks for the info.

Ask them nicely and they just might do it. I have heard of this happening before, so it is well worth the ask. Probably not a big deal to them to make a sale.

A new 2015 should be 10-12K below MSRP or 35-38K. A sub 30,000 mile 2013+ SHO should be 25-29K. Any 50K+ luxury car sheds value like crazy.
