PokerMunkee that's a excellent point. I will probably start looking for some used 15s and 14s a month or two before I get back home. That way I still have some warranty and I'm not taking the depreciation hit. I wouldn't mind buying a new 2015 for mid to upper 30s especially if its fully loaded.

I will be honest though, I just found out they offer the Chevy SS in a manual now.....may change my thought process.

As long as you are prepared to pay sticker price and don't want AWD. Due to the LSx engine in the SS, however, more availability as far as modding it goes.

And a SHO with a tune will still outrun it in the 0-60, very possibly the 1/4.

SHOdded, your exactly right. With purchase of a brand new sho +2,000 in mods your running mid 12's, stock 2015 SS, the cheapest you are getting it is 45k and it runs a 12.9. Butw wow I did not realize how much these things depreciate. Talking 2014's in the mid to upper 20's with less than 15-20k miles.

True, can't get around that especially if you are a "short-timer". Limited production runs for vehicles like the GTP and tge SS help them hold their value. Still tend to not get the "respect" foreign nameplates do.

If Ford ever puts high CI engines in their sedans again, might get some attention where it belongs.

SHOdded....I don't mind the high depreciation. Essentially you can make a mid 12 sec full size family sedan....fully loaded for under 30k and it only be 2 years old....unreal. I love the V8 rumble and shifting gears but I have my 3000GT for when I want to run 10s in the quarter and shift through gears. The only real turn off I see on the SHO at this time is aftermarket support. For those guys that want to hit low 11's to high 10's doesn't seem to be much support. I would imagine the drivetrain will start to need some serious modification at that point. Not saying I want a 11 to 10 second SHO but that would make one **** of a sleeper. Good news about not having a huge aftermarket is there is not much you can spend your money on. I'm already 30,000 into the 3000GT, I don't think they have 30,000 worth of aftermarket parts for the SHO :).

The good news about aftermarket support is Livernois pretty much has the market cornered and their products are priced very well....I don't know if I'm being spoiled because I'm use to paying out the butt for 3000GT parts. Spending under 2k in mods and you can drop over a second in your 1/4 mile time, truly unbelievable. I spent 3 times that on just a set of turbos :(.

After doing research on the SS, I think the SHO meets more of my needs, but I'm definitely shopping used now.

I suppose if you did an RWD conversion, you could make the SHO the speed freak. AWD would likely see VERY limited duty as either DD or track at those levels. Upgraded PTU, axles and rear clutch packs at a minimum, maybe even a carbonfiber driveshaft would be good.

I considered buying an SS because it's one of a rare few sedans where one can still get a 6-speed manual. Then I looked at the gas mileage. Kind of lost interest.

There is a 2014 PP SHO for sale near me for just under 28K, has just under 30K miles on it. Central Ohio if you are interested. They've only had it for 3 weeks, so the price will probably go down a little bit more.

Did GM recently announce that they are discontinuing the SS?

Not that I am aware of. But they are manufacturing limited numbers of the SS (even more so than the SHO) per year. They have to be shipped from Australia, and these days it's a question how long the Holden-GM partnership will last.

There’s expected to be less than 1,000 Chevrolet SS sport sedans arriving in the first shipment from Australia later this year. That being the case, they will be selectively given to the 3,000 dealers in America, based on each dealer’s recent Corvette and Camaro sales, according to Edmunds.

Being that volume will be low, Chevrolet is aiming low with its sales projections, relatively speaking. For instance, 1,700 to 2,000 units sold annually would be enough to call the Chevrolet SS a successful venture, according to Chevrolet Performance Marketing Manager John Fitzpatrick.

Thanks for your service stay safe ! I would love to see the 2016s pics and specs when the heck is it going to be released to public. Cant go wrong with any year SHO. I get complements on my car just about every time I leave my house. Last guy said....thats a really fast car isn't it? hahahhaha I said you have no idea. It was 17,000 miles when I got it with every option 32k. You could get a good deal on a nice used one always go that route.

TTV6: COngratulations and again thanks for the service from a Desert Storm vet.....I know I am ancient. Congratulations and I concur with the USAA I got a decent deal and was approved for well over what the selling price of my 2014 SHO was. At this point if not purchased I would recommend the Hold for the 2016 SYNC GEN3. If you haven't purchased before deployment maybe save up if possible and really be able to get a nice loaded SHO when return.
