Are you replacing the cats or the entire y-pipe? AdvanceAuto sells the Magnaflow y-pipe with cats...if you use coupon SP28 price drops to $335 and you get $25 coupon for future purchases.

I have not been able to find a cat-back either. Only option I am aware of is a custom bent system.

Just find a local exhaust shop and have them make you one. Should be about $300-$400 out-the-door depending on what you pick for mufflers and tips.

strict emissions in NJ??

I'd like to cut out my back cat altogether. I certainly wouldn't replace it if I were redoing the system.
I think it passes w/o it anyway.

2.25" is the normal replacement size mufflers but IIRC the OEM pipes are down under 2" on the stock **** inlet.

No you wouldn't. OTOH, there is a midrange torque drop with the 3rd cat out.

Depends entirely on where you are getting the inspection, Ron. In places that do not test for emissions levels, or do but also check for original installed equipment presence, you will in fact fail the emissions inspection if the third cat has been removed. I have been to places that could care less and others where they will not even bother to check the emissions if a piece of the original configuration is missing, they just fail you immediately.

Right, so my thinking is that they won't notice the third cat or the resonator being gone if there is a nice section of straight pipe from the flex pipe back to take their place.

Plus, it's beyond the O2s, anyway. Never really got an explanation of why they did it, as they have the air pump for cold-starts. Just know that a coupla folks reinstalled the 3rd cat, and noticed the torque they lost.
