Ok in the photo look for the stream of oil running down in a straight line from the bottom of the crank pulley. This is a leaking front seal? I wondered also if it could be a camshaft seal leak?

Thanks guy

There is no pic???

Anyways, this could be the one of many seals of that side of the engine because most of the leaks that happen high take the path which ends up dripping off of the crank area.

Most likely it's a camshaft seal. BUT I can't guarantee that, thee only way to be sure is to replace all the seals.

Not really enough information to conclude it would most likely be a camshaft seal. It could well be the front main seal. The front two camshaft seals are not as leak prone as the rear one in my experience because they are less exposed to heat. But in any case, it's sort of a guess at this point with nothing more to go on like how long it has been since seals have been replaced.

well i am giving up on the pic for now.. The car sat for about 7 years in my mom and dads garage. I got her up and running and have put about 8000 miles on it. The leak started out as a drip and all the sudden ti is now a steady stream. The leak is coming dead center off the oil pan right under the crank pulley. Oh the seals have never been done. It has about 150,000 miles on it...

if the seals have never been done and its 150k, then they all need replaced, so it doesn't really matter which one is leaking that bad - just replace them all.

If nothing has been replaced, it would be best to do them all, as stated above. You should also replace the timing belt, and i'd do the water pump too while your in there.

You could consider the oil pan, not sure how adventuresome you are....but if you're there might as well do it all at once.

I am holding off on the oil pan for now.. I have on the parts list..

1. timing belt
2. front seal
3. camshaft seals from ford x3
4. water pump and install kit
5. new idler and tension timing bearings... sho source
6. new cps sensor from sho source

Anything missing?

Notably i wanted to go ahead and do the hyd adjuster but i am holding off and hoping that the regualr oil changes and sythetic oil will let it live longer.. if not i will replace that and everything else not replaced here that spins or wears overtime next time i go into it...

The hydraulic tensioner is separate from the oil system so if you have high miles you might want to replace it for preventive maintenance.

Looks good!

As Loudsho92 said, the timing belt tensioner is hydralic, but it is a sealed unit, so it doesn't mix with the engine oil.

After this is all done, you might want to move up and do the valve cover gaskets, and plugs/wires.

Semi Urgent!!

had oil puddles under all the camshaft seals.. not sure which was the worst but all were at least leaking some.. I am wondering if i need to use the extra gaskets in my front seal kit? I suppose it is the ones behind the idler pulley for the timing belt. If i take that apart i can then install the new O rings from my water pump kit? Do i need to do this?

Thanks

Jason
