I've been thinking about doing the gen3 front upgrade since I now work at a parts store and can get all the parts I need for basically nothing but info on the 11.6 rear upgrade doesn't seem to be out there that much, I searched it and didn't get far, so what do I need to get for this upgrade or do I actually need to get custom parts from shosource?

Yes you will need the custom bracket and hub ring from us for the kit.

You'll need gen 1 calipers and brackets, a relocation bracket, and a hub ring for the new rotors. The last two are the custom parts...

www.shonutperformance.com

You wont find the parts at SHONut, only SHO Source.

It's been years since I checked. I just remember buying them from Josh when I got mine.

Time to bring this thread back to life. What brakes would you use with this upgrade? I would imagine to save some money you could use the brackets and calipers from an 89-92 SHO from the JY and clean em up?

also... would this work with the 11.6 front upgrade or would it throw things off as far as braking?

I haven't rotors on a stock 95 sho so I do not know if front and rear rotors are the same size. With as much as I have done on cars, haven't done much with four wheel disk except for changing brakes.

You can but you run the risk of the calipers not lasting long or having a potential problem.

Should be ok. The swept area of the disc and the pad and caliper size remain the same in the rear. The disc itself is the only thing that is bigger in that setup.

I'd go with 90-92. I forget what was different, aside from not having ABS, but I did a swap onto a Gen 4 once that was a total pain in the ass using 89 rear knuckles.

Best bet is to get the entire assembly from the donor car, knuckles and all.

As long as you clean up and go through the used parts to make sure everything functions as it should, you should be fine.

89 = vented disc without abs
90-92 = vended disc with abs
93-95 = solid disc with abs

Brian, is the 89 dimensionally the same as 90-92? I know the 89s have different rear wheel bearings...

Yes, you are correct. The knuckle on 89 versus 90-92 is totally different as well as for bearings. It definitely better to go with 90-92 knuckle for the 11.6 upgrade.

So it's more of an aesthetics upgrade.

So if that's the case, the stock rear brake pads would be used? Or would I use brake pads for a 92? I see shosource has rear pads for 93+

To be sure I understand, it is more for looks rather than an upgrade since the front brakes are your main stopping power?

From what I have gleaned from this forum: If you have the big brake upgrade (Wilwood or Baer etc 12.5-13" rotors up front), then rear brake upgrade can help restore balance in braking power, since front brakes see most of the duty (70-75%). Otherwise, yes, more for aesthetics.

Aesthetics if you have larger wheels. I wouldn't even bother if you have 16" wheels.

I suspect if you're tracking your car, and you've got very good tires, and a very good line you might want the increased rear braking powah, but if you have adjustable rear arms and the prop box isn't functional, and your ABS is *****... Well, I'm going to add the bias plugs and test it out see how it feels.
