This is kind of an odd question I feel. Basically I am trying to figure out why I get a large vibration when slowing down at highway speeds without applying the brakes.

I got my wheels checked for balance, rotors checked, not warped and pads changed less than 10k miles ago.

When changing my oil today, I was rotating the wheels and wondered this question:

How long should it take after rotating one tire for the other to start spinning? It seems like I have a lot of play here but I don't know if that is normal or not.

Thanks for any help.

You didn't mention the mileage, but it "might" be wheel bearings.

On tires. When I bought the white '89, it had a vibration at 60-70 mph. Swapped on a new set on lace wheels that felt fine on the red car, but it still vibrated. rotated them, with the same deal.

Some thought that the mid-axle bearing might be going. Fast-forward to this year. Got a set of balanced wheels/tires from Tire Rack. Vibration is gone.

Every time I have gotten a wheel/tire package from Discount Tire or Tire Rack, the balance has been perfect.

Well, here's a quick question for you... I have balanced these wheels twice now.. and both times they are stacking weights on the wheels, all of them in fact... does this mean they are screwing up the balancing or is it that something is wrong with the wheels themselves?

Yes...........

The weight stacking doesn't sound good, but could be a bad wheel or tire.

Might try another shop. Go to a better shop, which could cost more, but could be worth it.

I agree with Ron, if they are literally stacking up the weights, either the shop has a problem or the wheels do. Going to a better shop to figure out which (or both) is the way to go.

Yeah, I tend to agree with that. I find it odd they didn't even mention to me that they were doing that.

Regarding balancing: I always make them show me a "zero readout" on the balancer. If I don't, the "TECH" will spin the tire, look at the reading, add the weight...and remove the tire without spinning it again...trusting that the weight he just added made the tire balanced.

That's not your problem, though. I don't think tire balance vibrations care if you are braking or cruising or accellerating.

Possibilities include:
Wheel bearing as stated
Bent rim as stated
Broken or damaged band in the tire (Move tires from front to back and see if it changes)
Any of your other up front components including strut mounts, ball joints, axle.
