So I took my car to get the clutch done about 4 thousand miles ago.. The ***** didnt have the sense to call me to ask where the key for the lugnut lock is so he just took it off himself. When they put the car back together they only put 4 of the 5 lugnuts back. He probaby destroyed the lug nut locks on both front wheels so now I noticed that the rotor is scraping against the brake caliper especially when turning it squeals alot.

I bought a new rotor, will this fix it or do I need to replaces the berrings, hub and everything else on that side? I jacked the car up, bought new lugnuts and when I tighened everything up there is still no gap between the caliper and rotor the way the others have. And on top of that if the car is on the jack and I wiggle the wheel around it, the whole rotor moves a little bit.

Do you mean rotor or dust shield? I know if your dust shield is bent i can rub on the ROTOR.. I don't see why, if he did a clutch, why he would remove the brakes, but i can understand bumping into the dust shield. IF thats the case, just bend it away from the rotor a bit.

something else is wrong. loose bolt, some crud jammed in someplace... i doubt your rotor is to big all the sudden.

pics of where / how its rubbing would help alot.

If you look at the passenger wheel you can see where the brake caliper is scraping against the front of the rotor and scoring / scraping about 1/4 " wide on the outer diameter / edge of the rotor like the first 1/4" beginning of a LP record where you first put the needle down..

the machined face of the rotor and caliper cant make contact in that area unless your brake pad is missing .... so im going to assume that your pad is worn down to the baking plate and its pad backing plate on rotor instead of caliper on rotor

Are you sure it's not the caliper BRACKET hitting the rotor? If so, check your axle nut for tightness.

As mentioned, check the axle nut. Check the wheel bearing, after you make sure the axle nut is tight.

...and then keep your eye on the caliper bracket to make sure it didn't get get bent from hitting the rotor.

typical first symptom of bad front wheel bearing is the brake caliper bracket scraping on the rotor. I'd check wheel bearings and expect to have to change it.

Would you know what part numbers I would need from rockauto? Ill order them and go to the machine shop that has the press so they can remove the hub from the knuckle and press the new one

I'm sure you can buy it locally they're not that expensive. So if you're in a rush just buy one from a local auto parts store. If you want to order from RA just type in your year, make and model and you should find your wheel bearing.

513058 is the National/SKF number for just the bearing

520100 is the National/SKF number for the bearing and new hub.

you have a 50/50 chance of needing the hub, so I'd recommend buying the bearing and hub both. you can buy locally for less than RA due to shipping costs.

Ok I know this has been a while. I finally bought the hub repair kit, hub, bearing , clip , axle nut.. What size is the axle nut supposed to be? it fits in a 29mm perfect, 30mm there is a little play.. I need to take the knuckle off, do I need any special tools?

Wait what? Go to the junkyard and get some more lugnuts, they probably won't even charge you, and do everyone on the road around you a favor.

I picked up new lugnuts at autozone along with the new rotor and pads. Had to go somewhere else for the hub repair kit. The job wasnt that bad until I got to the point of removing the knuckle from the ball joint but the tips from reading the posts about getting the subframe a little loose helped out alot. Took the hardware to the machine shop to have them do the press work...

Thanks for all the tips and what I found in the search. Strauss wanted to charge $250 + wheel alignment charges and thats after I told them I already had the hardware.
