But your car is stock.....

Not any more, it ain't! We counted 45 deviations from factory specs about a week ago. Now, granted, only about 8 or 9 are "mods" as I'd define it, but it's still well over the limit of 4 for the class. It has had a lot of work done to it since Carlisle. The F&R strut tower braces are the most obvious, but the braking system alone accounts for 5 of them.

Plus, my car is in SHO Heaven. Her car isn't stock any more.

i just made the trip to raleigh not too long ago for a festiva meet, not sure i would do it again soon.. what about us local fl guys any pre meet with in our state is cool with me instead of having to be exposed to the rice meets wearing a bullet proof vest and also being the oldest kid their.....

West Palm to Raleigh? Less than a day's drive!! I had about the same commute from the Detroit suburbs to Raleigh when I lived in Raleigh.

A Festiva meet? I know there are car clubs for about anything, but.....

We discussed that "issue" for the Car Show this year. You would only get a 2-point penalty for 1-to-infinity changes from stock in the Stock Class. We could be at 2 points per infraction in the future.

You would need to adopt a scale of point deductions based on the severity of the mod. I.E. stainless steel brake lines should not incur the same penalty as a supercharger!

No, that would be too much into the weeds. Stock is stock. SS lines, or a blower, or the dealer-applied pinstripe on Paul Thomas' week-old 2011 are not stock.

You are better off in Modified, anyway. Stock is the tougher class, IMO.

I'd love to go. I have family down in NC so it could be a "multipurpose" trip. lol. I've never been to any of the conventions. Aside from travel costs, how much would I be looking at spending?

Depends..you have a registriation fee (this year's was $60 or $80 depending on how last-minute you sent it in). Then if you want a hat or a shirt that's another 20 bucks. Then the banquet dinner and any events. The track event is pricey if you participate; if not, there's a nominal fee for spectators usually (or it's free). Hotels run about 100 bucks a night--they get us a group rate.

The rest is your own food, beer/liquor, and gas money to get there and back. Our registration this year was about 300 bucks, but it was at Ford, so we did the museum tour and alot of "pay" events.

So basically, aside from travel and hotel expenses, if I plan on a couple hundred dollars I should be ok? I just don't want to get down there and find out I don't have enough set aside...

Figure about $500 for hotel, $300 for registration and most events, and like $40 a day for food and other extra stuff, and you should be good. Realistically, you will probably spend less. Of course, you can get away spending much less, but I recommend participating in the events and eating at the restaurants. Oh, don't forget gas.

Like has been said for years, put about $20 a week in a shoebox, and you'll have most of the money you need.

Are you getting up at noon? West Palm to Raleigh is 12 hrs. You can do it, Todd.

On this year's convention trip, we drove almost to the WV/OH border in the first day. That's with pulling a trailer and 45mph traffic all the way through SC and NC.

What?? Are you 80 years old?? That's under 800 miles!!

1300 miles a day is a really full day. It's what I do driving to Phoenix to see my dad.

Oh, and I would plan on $1,000 for a Convention trip for everything, assuming you are coming from within a 1,000-mile radius (one day's drive). You won't go wrong doing $20/week for 50 weeks.

Well, at this point, it's more like 46 weeks, so make it $22.
