Hey guys,
Having just attained my SHO I was curious as to some of the choice tires you guys prefer for the SHO?

I would qualify as mildly spirited driver. I'm hardly ever pushing the car too hard. I would like something that can last me a good while and still offer enough responsiveness to handle the occasional speed streak (rare green light launches, fast turns). :swing:

I certainly don't need super high performance but I wanna invest in a tire worthy of the SHO (even if it's an ATX :p ).

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Tires are like oil (and opinions). Everybody has theirs that they like.

Tires I've used that I like: Fuzion (either HRi for all-season or ZRi for summer) and General Exclaim UHP. Apparently Falcon Azenis are good as well.

I'm running General Exclaim UHPs(P225/55VR16) on my 91' with great success. They're on a DD and have offered a great combination of wet/dry handling and braking along with a good ride quality. That and they are priced to offer real Bang for the Buck. Check them out at Tire Rack.

Thanks for the input guys.

I don't have to deal with snow where I live so that's a non-issue.

The Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS' seem to be what I'd go with for a more spirited driving style but I usually don't corner hard at all and let the car cruise.

I'm sort of torn between the General Exclaim UHP and the Fuzion HRi

Both are very closely priced but I like the treads on the General's a little better, seems to be a more thought out tread. Probably just me, how's the mileage between the two? (I drive like a granny 85% of the time).

Also, I am correct in choosing 225/55R16 as a fatter choice to the stock 215/60R16 ?

I've put over 10k miles on my Generals and they still look like new. The 225/55s are wider than the 215s. 225= 9.2" width 215= 8.7" width

Well yeah, they're wider, but they're 97% the size of the 215s. This means your speedo will read 3% fast, which is probably a good thing; it'll make you speed a little less. 3% less, to be precise.

I've noticed the HRis wear a little less than the UHPs. My wife beats on her HRis less than I beat on my UHPs, though, so it may not mean anything. The HRis are a little quieter, and have better hydroplaning resistance when new, and can handle snow a LOT better than the UHPs, but are more than a bit squishier. Not a lot squishier, mind, but the difference is noticeable on sharp turn-ins.

However, that's just, like, my opinion, man.

Conti DWS' are right on like fly's on $hit. My .02

So... do you like them? Your post is confusing. lol

I got Michelin X-Radials on my 92 MTX... they are a long life tire and provide adequate grip...

Apparently not! :laugh_ti: I'm sorry, I don't mean to rag on you, but the combination of this post and your username was just too much... lolol oh the irony!:evilgrin:

Hawkeye,

The question was:
Also, I am correct in choosing 225/55R16 as a fatter choice to the stock 215/60R16 ?

6% wider makes a "fatter" tire. So I provided the width specs. If he had asked for the total differences, I would have provided all the specs. In fact, I had originally provided a link to Tire Rack for the complete specs. I'm not trying to hide anything, I'm just trying to providing info on a tire and size that I have personally experienced.

The Fuzion HRi will prove to be a good tire for your low snow location. They are made in America, and they are the best priced tire by far. You could pay twice as much and do no better.

i've got a set of 225-55 16 UHPs on both of my SHOs, and i absolutely love em. far better than the G-Force Sports i've run in the past, and last a lot longer than the Khumo Victoracers i ran one summer. you ain't gonna beat em for the price.

That's the answer I needed, sorry for the unclear question.

I can interpret a tire size and know the basic relationship between the numbers, speed ratings and tread wear ratings.

The more I look at the Exclaim UHP's the more they seem to be hit home for my needs.

The Fuzion HRi's are right in the same category but I'm not found on the tread pattern as much, that's just my opinion though, I am by no means an expert.

As off now I will just ride down the no name tires that came with the car when I bought it.

Looking forward to some good rubber on down the road.

thanks for all the input fellows, it's really helpful. :thankyou:
