Very very weird. If i had to guess. He got into a wreck and replaced the SHO items such as the drivers side door with the reg. Taurus se door.

But..thats a very wild guess.

Quick answer to that question: What's the VIN?

Keep in mind that there were 5 Silver '96s without sunroofs and 1 Silver '96 without keyless entry. It's altogether possible that this is the 1 and 1 of the 5. (See the other thread I linked above for clarification on that.)

He started parting out the car. Sold the wing before i got the car!
The sticker on the door matches the VIN number on the Dash.
Gray leather seats,JBL sound system with NO remote CD changer, chrome wheels,
NO SUNROOF, NO KEYLESS ENTRY!

If a silver '96 in that condirion is worth $1,000 (on a good day), a "rare" one without those options is worth $1,001.

Or maybe $900 as most folks want a moonroof.

This is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Yeah, I bought a 1-of-318 white '89 SHOs that were supposedly never built. I don't expect it to get a penny over comparable '89s. It's a piece of **** retentive trivia that only matters to hard-core SHO owners.

Heres something I thought of. I sell new cars, and certain packages come standard with certain equipment. However, if the car is being ordered for fleet use, the customer has the option to order the vehicle without the standard equipment like keyless entry or EATC and still keep it that particular package. I guess they do it to cut costs. Maybe this was a previous rental or other fleet use. Just a thought.

If the two threads on this exact topic could be merged, I would only have to post this once, but according to the Ford production numbers, this car is the only Silver '96 without keyless entry, and one of five Silver '96s without a sunroof.

Also, I strongly doubt that there were ever any rental or fleet SHOs. Rental/fleet sales are almost always stripper, bare-bones trim-level, not top of the range luxury, high-performance models.

Not always. My 07 Taurus SEL was loaded with everything you can put in a car and its previous owner was Hertz. Theres also a Shelby 350H that was built ONLY for Hertz. Maybe a SHO never made rental **** but I'm sure it made it to other fleet uses.

Loaded and stripper SLOs have been common in rental fleets for years. The first Duratec I drove was a loaded '96 in AZ. The Hertz Shelby was a special deal back in the '60s, and they did a few within the last couple of years (auto only) as a commemoration.

I have never heard of SHOs bought as fleet vehicles. I doubt there were ever any. Now, SHOs have been purchased as company cars, but not as a fleet.

Pull autocheck or CarFax and see what it says. Carfax is usually better autocheck slips up every now and again. It said my car had 4 owners when it has only had 3...

From my current SHO's Carfax report:

06/15/1994 28 New Jersey
Motor Vehicle Dept.
Mount Laurel, NJ Title issued or updated
First owner reported
Registered as
corporate fleet vehicle

FWIW, It's got everything but the phone. Which is the exact opposite of my old green '94. It had a manual pass. seat, no keyless entry, no moonroof, and no JBL. But it DID have the phone at one point.

I could buy a car and register it as a Corporate Fleet Vehicle. Every Ford company lease car for execs is a Corporate Fleet Vehicle, but they are ordered by the individual.

Fleet Sales are when a company, like Hertz, orders 1,000 cars and specifies what they want them built with. In those cases, you can get some weird combos. Like with Gen 2 SLO cop cars. I have never heard of fleet sales for SHOs. And I doubt any company would.

Although there will be Fleet Sales for 2010 (or whenever they become available) SHO cop cars.
