I went out into my garage tonight and found my new SHO with the front windows down and the moon roof in the tilted open position and the car unlocked.

I think I remember someone posting a couple of months back that there is a situation when this will happen (either by a special use of the key fob or something malfunctioning) but I can't remember why and I can't seem to find the old post.

Can anyone set me straight on how this happens. I carry three different key fobs for my cars in my pocket at all times and some times a key will set off the panic button or unlock a car. But this is the first. I don't want this to happen again, especially if the car is parked outside unattended and especially if it happened to be raining.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

so you're telling me that this was your first post on this forum, and you didn't ask a lame question that everybody else asks, you weren't an ass, you weren't saying SHOs suck and mustangs are T3H R0CK!1!1!!1!, and you actually posted useful information in a clear and concise manner...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have a first here.

I wish people like you joined every day, instead of the types that more often do... :hail::salute:

Thanks.....I just took delivery of my SHO 3 days ago, I love it so far. I sold my Lightning because I needed something with 4 doors and I'm happy with the choice. I try not to be an ass (most of the time) however I may ask a stupid question once and a while and I'll help out whenever I can. Look forward to posting more.

Be sure to study your manual. There's a lot of neat features that this car has to offer. I take it you are enyoying it too huh?

Im going to assume its the "Unlock" button that does this as the op said their doors were unlocked also, and it just makes sense that the lock button would lock the car up and not open it into a free for all LOL

Now

Im just curious as to why this would need to be a feature on cars? I could see if you were at home and wanted to air the car out or something then cool, but like Bamaron said not KNOWING that the windows were down and doors were unlocked could have had very bad results. Just wondering if anyone knows a reason behind this feature?

It allows you to let the interior cool down on a hot summer day before going for a drive, instead of climbing into an oven.

The boss mans wife here did that with her G35 in the driveway, in the middle of a summer storm, keys in her purse wedged against her wallet, pushing down on the unlock button.

I dried it out for her. We pulled everything out. Later, she wrecked it and bought a RX350, and repeated the opening of the windows and sunroof , this time overnight. Insurance company totaled it.

It is a feature of your 2010 SHO key fob, depress and hold the unlock button (I think it’s for 3 seconds) and the front windows open, the sunroof tilts. I have not yet had a need to use it since my new SHO ownership experience has been limited to winter months but I will use it as I have used a similar feature on my VW to get rid of sweltering heat in the summer, very handy IMHO. I can imagine a situation where the unlock button could be inadvertently depressed in ones pocket or purse that might “auto initiate” this feature with the owner being unaware.

I bought a silver one, 401A with the 12S and Nav. Ordered it on November 13th and got it at the end of last week. Really like it so far! Wish the weather was a little nicer in Michigan!

Its a shame theres no way to make them go back up by pushing a button on the key fob.

Should be hold unlock for 3 seconds to put them down (like it is.

Hold lock for 3 seconds to put them back up

And while they are down have a red led stay lit up a little bit so someone will notice.

I think the LED and the up button function are pointless as the man concern here is inadvertly bumping the Fob buttons in a purse or pocket.

IF the keys are in my pocket I'm not going to see any LED that's for sure. And if I don't know that the windows are down when would I ever use the up function?

Now maybe a vibrate from the fob when it does this would be more effective that the LED. But the added size and weight of a vibrate motor (may involve either bigger batteries or shorter Lithium cell life) may not be the most optium for the fob's size and weight.

Sounds like you want an app for that on your phone instead of a fob. new Key Fobs are bulky enough as it is, adding vibration and cell phone batteries will make it as big as some flip phones.

Honestly it isn't impossible and the weight impact wouldn't be huge. Battery llife would be the only real question. I believe that the pair of CR2032's (is that what is in the new fobs?) would run one just fine especially if it will only vibrate in somewhat rare circumstances.

I just took a look at the Blackberry curve I have for spare parts here in my office. The vibrate motor on it is approx .190" x .190" x about .600" in length. I'd be willing to bet that making something like it fit would be very doable for any fob that is much over .300" thick. I don't have a gen 4 fob here, but my Gen 3 Fob is about .400" thick. I'll get the image linked in here in a little bit, but it may have to wait until I can get home to upload to my server.

As you can see the vibrate motor is quite tiny. Fitment wouldn't be an issue, powering it could be an issue.
