I've got this 1100lb. kit car with VW power that I've been sitting on...
FINALLY found an SHO that was bad off enough to rip out the powertrain and part out the rest.
(Of course ya'll will get first shot, you appreciate these cars!)
I realize it'll be a long, ugly process and *think* I've got the patience/stamina for it... Guess we'll see?
I'll try to post progress (it'll be slow) and will GLADLY accept advice/help from folks that've been down this road!!!

Think I'll shut up now, post a pic, and then wear OUT the search button.........
Brian.

that car is gonna be crazy when its got SHOpower... it looks smaller than a miata...

what is the engine layout? RR or MR?

more power to you and others that build these little cars. i'm 6'4" and 300+ lbs. i dont think there's a sho(methewayhom)e horn big enough to get me in and out of that.

Oh nice , there's some answers out there for a RWD SHO transplant , it's been done before. There's even a guy who sells the adaptor plate to make it happen.

I'm 20min. E of San Antonio, could definately use some help* LOL
It's a VW powertrain right now which is Rear engine/Rear drive. My intentions are to graft in the entire SHO engine/trans as a package ala NovaSS festiva's swap (attached is a pic of his)
Picking up the SHO tomorrow and STILL finalizing the measurements to see if it will indeed work! THANK GOD for the search button on ya'lls forum btw.....

honestly if u plan on puttin any major power to it id consider a different tranny.......our differentials r fairly weak, or get a quaife/wavetrac

Our trannies are actually pretty tough. Once the diff is welded/quaifed, there's really no problem with the tranny other than the complete lack of parts to rebuild it. A T-5 isn't actually much (if any) improvement in strength.

to add to what firebat said, this car is a third the weight of our car and i dont think he would have any problems with anything other than the diff.

please post pics of the progress.

I definately intend to post up progress in case anyone else is insane and is thinking of going down this road... It's going to be a slow process for sure though.

Noticed this forum didn't really have a "build thread" area though. Any thoughts on what section to start it off in?

Yeah, we need to have a "What Was I Thinking" Forum. I know about seven or eight other FrankenSHO's that could post in there.

 .... I've stumbled across a few, gotta go find the rest now! Thanx Tom.
Wait a minute, where is your SHOBuggy build at?
Seriously though, we should look into a "Projects in Progress" area?

Well, after crunching numbers... measuring twice, then again, and again....
I'm NOT going to be able to fit this powertrain into my car without ruining what I've got.
Width-it'd stick out pretty far even after shortening half-shafts.
Height-I'd have to modify the chassis so much it'd appear to have been "kicked in the ****" unless I exposed the motor through the upper deck. (no way!)
Height- it'll be ONE INCH short of touching the seats... OK, that figure was workable.... but the other ones KILLED me!

These motors are too cool! Shame it won't work.
I'm just not wanting to ruin the "mid-60's sports-car aura" that my ride has to make it work.

I'm listing it back on craigslist I guess.... :booboo:
