Hi.

I'm new to the forum. But not new to Tauri and the SHO.

Been driving Tauri since 1993. Still have the first one, and it still runs good (1987 Wagon 3.0 Vulcan, 235,000 miles)

In 1999, a dealer ad appeared in the local paper for a 1987 Taurus with a 5-speed. I responded. It was an MT-5, the forerunner to the SHO, sort of.

The dealer told me it was a "go anywhere car". I bought it for $1800. I still have it, 295,000 miles. The engine and trans never rebuilt or replaced. It still will go anywhere.

I liked the 5-speed Taurus so much, I started looking for a 5-speed SHO in 2002. Came across a 1989 SHO with 84,00 actual miles on it, a year later, in 2003. The car was in very good condition. Bought it for $2,400 and have driven it for over six years (now has 163,000 miles) with no mechanical problems. Until now.

I joined the forum after seaching the 'net for a forum with sound advise on the SHO.

Before posting the problem, I'll read thru the experiences of others.

Thanks for having this forum.

Yes welcome. I'd like to see pics of the engine in front of the 87 5 speed. Is it the 4 banger?

"Welcome. nice little collection you've got there"

Thank for the 'welcome'.

Both the MT-5 and the SHO have given me good, reasonably economical service.

Due to the lighter engine, the MT-5 handles way better than the '87 Wagon.

They are both fun cars to drive, though few in the general public understand either car.

I had a Ford dealer service writer tell me he had never seen an MT-5 before. This same dealer refuses to work on the SHO, too old and the mechanics don't like to work on them.

The MT-5 is a 2.5 litre four. Though not fast, it's not too bad, considering most driving is done under 7,000 RPM's anyway.

I don't have a pic, but I could take one.

How and where would I post it?

Thanks for the 'welcome', Off Road Moderator.

Off Road Moderator... I LIKE it!

You have to have your pictures and videos "hosted" by a server company like PhotoBucket or as I do, at SuperMotors.com. Once hosted, you just put a link in your post here that sends the viewer to that particular page at the hosting company to get the picture to show up on their local computer.
