My Check Engine Light seems to be doing some wierd things this morning on the way to work. I parked the car and the CEL came on. I turn the engine off and restart and the CEL comes right back on and stays lit. If I press the accelerator the CEL starts to flicker and dim. However, if I let off the accelerator the light stays on constant. Strange. I havent had a chance to pull the codes to see what's stored. Is this normal for the CEL to dim and flicker? My previous experice is the light either being on or off. Any suggestions?(I'll try to pull the codes on lunch break in a bit)

TIA

Guess:::::
Engine stall./....
Can you hear the fuel pump whine when you turn the key?
No gurgle?
Check the codes....I think engine stall is 52 or 51 on Gen I...
And it may do this for a verrrrry long time before the pump dies :( ....ask me how I know.

Okay this is what I found. For the KOEO I rec'd 22 BP out of self test range? & 15 ECA ROM Test failure(the code only showed up once. Didn't show again when I re-ran the test. Now for the KOER I rec'd 74 BOO circuit failure during dymanic response test? However while I was running the test the CEL stayed on but flashed brighter when a code was flashed. Usually the CEL goes completely dark and lit again when a code flashed. Any ideas what the codes mean and the funny CEL. I will use the search button to also do some research.
Snowwind - I can hear the fuel pump engage when I turn the key to the run position(It makes the usual hmm sound).

searched at:
www.dalidesign.com
for meaning of the codes you gave...are you sure you did not try to test a cold car, like below operating temp.?
,,,I would have expected something more out of the 10-19 range of numbers.

I'll take the car out for a spin and re-check the codes. I also posted a response about my leaky hose in a previous post I made. Does anyone know how to clear all codes that are stored? Is it by removing the neg or pos batt cable, turn headlights on and hold the brake down for a min?

The real procedure for erasing the memory codes is to run the EEC test and pull the jumper while the codes are being displayed by the CHECK ENGINE light. The flickering is probably due to the faulty sensor tightroping across the in-range/out-of-range voltage boundary.

Unless you have a performance chip installed on the EEC (LPM), you may have a bad keep alive power connection to the EEC or a computer memory error. Check the secondary black wire coming (approx 10 ga.) from the negative battery terminal and the connector near the battery at the fender to make sure they are connected. This connector can be unplugged to remove the power from the EEC for the idle reset without clearing your clock and radio presets. If the power cable is okay, there may be a problem with the EEC itself. Clear the codes and check for this one again. The dimly lit CE light may be an indication that the EEC is confused.

The 74 was most likely a test procedure error and not a switch problem. The 22 says that your barometric pressure sensor is out of range and should be replaced. This was probably the cause of the flickering CE light. It is easy to reach as it is high on the firewall near the center of the car. These should be available at AutoZone or other local auto supply.

quoting from the www.dalidesign.com self test directions:
"Memory erase
To erase the memory disconnect the self test trigger while the codes are being input. You COULD also disconnect the battery but then the PCM forgets some important running characteristics."
I did not put in the CAPS, they did.
