The rears are 6x8's, not 5x7's... Pioneer has a decent selection of 6x8's that are an exact fit. Using 5x7's will require a mounting plate.

This is incorrect.

5x7's do not require a mounting plate.

Depending on how the manufacturer chooses to list it is why it's listed as 6x8 or 5x7.

I've got Infinity Kappa 5x7's in my rear deck, no mounting plate required, and they aren't sized differently than most other 5x7's.

Would 6X9's fit in the back without any modification?

ohio is for hustlers
I have a set of 6x9s in mine. Had to trim the metal around the existing speakers and use some rubber sealant stuff to get a nice seal on it. I'd recommend it as the difference in sound between the two is really noticeable, but it's a pita to do.

the 5x7/6x8 is a debate of samantics, the rear that your 5x7s fit without a plate is because infinity doesn't have TRUE 6x8s, they have 5x7s that they sell as 5x7/6x8s. i would suggest doing the trimming and going with 6x9s, they sound a LOT better and they are easier to find. some 6x9s actually fit without trimming or any problems. the fronts are 5 1/2 factory, but 6 1/2s fit.

The fronts on the Gen II are 6 1/2. Unless maybe the cheapass stock system had 5 1/2. And many aftermarket 6 1/2 won't fit if the magnets are too deep. I'm hoping that my next stereo will have an enclosure for a 6 1/2 or a Focal 7" in the map pocket area.

Alright, so if the fronts stock are 5 1/2 and you can fit in a 6 1/2 which how deep can the magnet be, and what brands are being used by anyone in the forum that are 6 1/2 for the GenII.???

I believe the mounting depth max is 2 3/4 inches?? I had to go with a set of 5 1/4 a/d/s/ components because the 6 1/2 were too deep. If price is no object, go with Dynaudio. They make some of the most incredible speakers in the world and they are very shallow. But $700 a pair would probably be too much?

And as been mentioned by the pro in here, the fronts ARE, not might be, ARE 6 1/2. The rears ARE, not might be, 5x7. Do I have to get out the Whoopin measurin' stick and beat you all, or what?? Don't mean to be vicious, but the facts are facts.
