What's the general opinion on Yokohama tires? I'll be replacing the tires on my 17" wheels next spring and thought these looked like good ones.
BTW they will be in 215/50/17 size. Don't laugh or point fingers. That size works great and is a lot lighter than the usual 235/45 or 245/45 on 17s.

Hey wuzzer, those look kick ass. The cost is pretty good as well. The tread rating could be a little higher for my tastes, but 280 on those tires isn't that bad. As far as the size goes: 215/50/17, that's exactly the size that I am running on my Taurus right now. I have Yokohama Avid T4's on my 17's. They ride smooth and the tread rating is damn good. Oh and BTW, I won't laugh at you for the tire size as long as you don't laugh at me for not having an SHO. thumbs_u
Here is a pic of my 17's on the 215/50/17 Yokohama Avid T4's:

Yeah, I thought the tread rating was a little lower than I would like it to be, but my 17s are only on about 8 months out of the year, so that will help.
I like how the 215/50 size looks on a 7" wide wheel. No sidewall bulge at all. I think it's a real clean look.
P.S. your wheels look almost exactly like mine. Here's a closeup before the Roush springs:

Yokohama in general has a pretty good reputation for high performance tires. If you are happy with the specs, you should go for them. And then let the rest of us know what you think after you have burned through them, of course. :)

I saw these tires in my Road & Track magazine one day and knew for a fact that they were the tires that I was going to buy when I needed new ones.

I've got Yokohamas on my Ranger and they are GREAT !!

I also love the price on them. $87.00 or so for 16's is awesome!!!

sunny San Juan Bautista,
The AVS ES100 is basically a modern day version of the AVS Intermediate. Except for the high price that the AVS-I had when they were new up through the mid nineties. Yes the tread pattern is totally different, basically I mean that Yokohama's goals are the same for the tire. Wet performance should be excellent. The price is good. I'm going to be using these tires when I can afford some 17X7 centerline RPMs. Also in the 215/50-17 size :)

When I had my 90 camry I had 205/50-16 AVS-I on 16X7.5 MSW type 55 rims. The performance was OUTSTANDING Back then I paid $140 a piece for the tires and they would only last me about 10,000 miles on that car. Now I'm paying $46 each for AVS-I 225/60-15 on my 15" weaves. They last about 20,000 miles. Performance isn't even close to being the same as on the camry. There is a LOT to be said for having the proper rim to tire match. Still one of the best tires in the rain as long as the tread isn't worn down too much.

I bought the ES 100's about a month ago and LOVE them! They track, ride, look and handle great! Great in dry AND wet! Very quiet and smooth. Best tires I have owned! I got them through Discount Tire and they matched Tirerack.com's price of $85 per tire! I got the 225/55 16 size. I have a before and after pic on one jpg to show how much nicer they look, also. If desired, email me at [email protected] to request a copy of it or if you have any questions.

Watch your load range, to compensate you may need to increase tire PSI which effects ride quality.

I just took off my AVS sports and they have 4/32 and it was their 4th summer.

I loved my AVS Sports, but may try S-03 next time for better mix of ride & performance. S-03 may cost twice what those tires cost so make up your own mind.
