Ok, on my sho when i bought it, the fronts were 2 different tires one with good tread and one shot. the backs are shot like the front one sooo i know it needs new tires. I got a coupon in the mail today for a 70 4 wheel alignment at a local ford dealership so im thinking im gonna get some new tires with the alignment. I was just wondering what tires you recommend that are rated to handle speeds but are fairly good on the pocket!! (college kid!!)

Thanks,
Clay

Cooper z-rated, $25 a piece at the junkyard, with only about 1-2k on them :naughty: I wouldn't even call that lucky. New they're about $120, expenzive, overly rated for a SHO, but damn nice.

I've got Uniroyal Tiger Paws on the '90, they were $76.99 each, plus mounting. Also really nice tires, and they're H-rated, 80,000 miles.

It kinda depends how much you want to spend though. I'm not opposed to using used tires, just look them over well for patches and abnormal wear.

I'm running my 2nd set of Khumo ECSTA Supra 712s on my 91'. They are the best all-round tire I have found. I live in NC so I'm not really worried about snow and ice. I had to special order my 2nd set, but they are still available(as of 4mos ago). Their directional tread offer excellent wet and dry traction as well as a quiet ride and superior transition. P225/55-16s ran me $83/tire to combined great performance with great value.

I ran the 712s on my 17s, in a 245/45. Were only $87 each. They didn't grip as well as the half worn Toyo Proxes 4s that came with the wheels when I got them did.

I run Kumho Ecsta SPTs on my 19s in a 245/35. They don't hold the road as well as the toyos either! But better then the 712s. For $142 each they should have come with a gas voucher or something..

I've heard that about the 712s 0n 17"+ wheels or 45-35 section widths. I've tried them on 15" and 16" wheels with 65 and 55 ratios and the sidewall stiffness seems to provide a good progressive feel with excellent control. I believe when you go to a shorter sidewall it changes the progression into a quick break-away. This goes to show how you can't always depend on one type of tire for various wheel and tire sizes. Just as different springs and shocks can change how your car handles, the various changes in wheel and tire set-ups have to be matched up to the type of ride and handling you desire. I depend alot on the reviews listed on http://www.tirerack.com with special interest on the type of cars driven and tire size used.

If you are looking at all-season tires, I presently have a set of Kumho ASX's on my SHO in 225/55/R16. They are great tires for the price....good cornering grip and a "sharp" road feel, and have done very well in rain and snow. :thumb:

how many miles are you looking to get out of a set of tires? how aggressive are you at cornerning?

do u drive in snow? if u do, do you have seperate tires for it or just 1 main set of tires to do every job......

I have 17 in wheels and I put avon tech550 all season on mine. 235/45/wr17's they cost 105.00 at the tire rack. I use these in the summer and on the track at the conventions. I'm getting ready to buy another set. going to have them shipped to Seattle so when I get there I can throw the old ones out lol.

WARNING ! ! ! !

AVOID COOPER TIRES LIKE THE PLAGUE ! ! ! !

I use to live near their main tire production plant located near Tupelo MS. There were repeated charges by both current and former employees of substandard and illegal practices - the most common being manually lancing bubbles in the rubber during the manufacturing process, which apparently is a big no-no.
