Tires?

Hello my fellow SHOnatics! Looks like I'll be getting some tires soon. I have the original 15" basket weaves and am wondering what kind of tires you guys would recommend? I would like something that can handle 140mph (just in case) but still provide good grip and a smooth ride. Thanks in advance for any info!

i had a set of firestone firehawks on my former chevy beretta, awesome awesome tires. never lost grip in the rain, even when i was being stupid. right now i have nittos on my SHO, and i have not been disappointed, even in that major snowstorm we had in NYC not too long ago, i drove all the way home 70 miles from the bronx to my house and didnt have a problem, and im talking about 3-4 inches of snow that were still on the road at the time. both were all seasons, so good for gas mileage and good for all year round

The most important question is: How are you going to drive your SHO? Many tires are at least "V" speed rated, so top speed is not that much of a concern. Daily driver? Daily driver that occassionally see's a track? Drag strip or road circuit? Track time much more important than street comfort? Tread life? My Goodyear RS-A's are now over 5 years old. How often can you afford new tires? ****, trying to figure out what you need then finding it is half the fun!!

Well pjtoledo, I think I found my tires ! They are Yokohama AVS Intermediate, size 225-60-15. They are Z rated so they can handle whatever the SHO can throw at them! From what I have read, they are GREAT tires. Get this, $44 a piece! thumbs_u

WOW eek! Where did you get them for that cheap? I might have to check it out, but in different cities and states the price vary but would be worth a try.

X-15, go to tirerack.com. They have GREAT prices! I was also looking into the Dunlop Sport 5000's. They seem to be a better tire but are $30 more each. I would suggest going to tirerack.com for tires before any where else. The shipping for 4 tires is $44, but you can't beat the prices.

Um, you're gonna put 225 width tires on the basketweaves? I've got a '92, so I never dealt with those wheels but I think you'd be better off with slightly narrower tires. boink

225x60x15's will work fine on basketweaves! Slicer's are only 6" wide, and they work perfect with 225x55x16's!! thumbs_u

225/55 would work perfect on 7" or wider rims. boink

In fact, definitely NOT perfect!! Not only are you using 225 width tires but it will have even less control than on a 16" wheel. With a 15" wheel and the 60 series tire, there is even that much more rubber that has to react between the rim edge and the tire edge. Not perfect. Get a wider wheel. boink

Dude, 91 SHO PLUS brought up that 225/60 15s would work fine because 225/55 16s worked fine on his slicers. Well, there is a difference in the 2 examples. You are comparing a tire tire with 60% of 225mm on the basketweave rim which equals a sidewall height of 135mm, with a sidewall height of 55% of 225mm on the slicer which equals 124mm. That is much less rubber that can squirm in turns.
