When changing tie rods is a tie rod tool necessary on a 92 SHO?

for the inners yes. for the outers no.

For the outer tie rods a "pickle" fork, or BFH (big friggin' hammer - aka. small sledge hammer).

Are there any pictures of the tool and/or the procedure for inner tie rods?

Looks like a big maglite flashlight with no lens. You'll probably need an adapter to go with it though. The tool itself works fine to take the old ones out, but the new ones I got are shaped slightly differently. The adapter fits over the end so that the tool itself can be used on it.

The outers are pretty simple, air chisle works pretty good to knock them loose. Don't forget to grease them!
