How can you tell if you need sway arm bushings and links? Over mild road conditions I can hear sometimes a faint thumping/rattle type sound. I was thinking it might be the sway arms. Any ideas as to what else would cause this. The car, a 1993 ATX does have a little bit to much sway while cornering for my tastes and also I think it wants to rebound slightly or bounce some. 116,000 and all stock suspension. Would sway arm bushings / links help with the light thumping noises I'm hearing. It's not very loud but noticeable to me.

I don't have the money for new struts yet but I could do the sway arm stuff. Anything else? Any ideas?

You tell if you need links if they look worn, or are loose and sloppin around. You tell if you need sway bar bushings if while unhooked from the links, the swaybar moves side to side, or rotates really easily.

The links can cause a slight rattle on bumps, but it could just as easily be one of a dozen other things. Just look at them.

Clunking sounds over bumps and around corners are often due to worn out strut mounts, particularly rear ones. Sounds like the struts are worn too. It wouldnt hurt to replace sway bar end links and bushings; inexpensive, easy to install and the car will handle better.
