struts questions

got a '93 SHO Mtx.

Got a couple of questions about my car.

1. Are there Struts on the front and back (or struts on front and shocks on back?

2. I need to go to a shop and get this done because of lack of tools and garage. Has anyone had them replaced recently? What was the approximate cost?

3. Are the struts (or shocks) the same on the SHO as the Taurus? One place told me they were and I thought that was wrong, but not sure.

we have 4 struts. i got mine replaced, each strut from shox.com was 45$ a pop for kyb gr2's. how r your springs? i would also recomend putting new rear strut mounts because most liklely they are shot. shox.com listed the shocks as the same for both cars. how are your springs? i got a set of eibachs for 220$. i had a friend do the install. not sure how much a grage would charge.

The OEM struts were not the same between the SHO and the garden variety Taurii. Don't go too cheap on the struts or you will be reaplcing them much sooner than you would like. I highly recommend the extra expense of the higher performance aftermarket struts like Tokico and Koni. I have had my set of Tokicos replaced after 125,000 miles of use under their lifetime replacement warranty. Since I do the work myself, that was a free set of struts.

You use the suspension every turn of the steering wheel and every roll of the tires. The SHO is fast enough, make it handle better and you will wear a bigger smile every time you sit behind the wheel.

You can change them yourself, though you will need a spring comressor which you can rent. I just replcaed my springs myself which really helps the handling which you should replce if you are doing the struts. You might also want to replace the strut mounts as well. Two of my struts were hard to seperate and had to have Pepboys do it, which I think is because I have the konis, to replace the stock ones should not be bad. The konis are very much worth the money. thumbs_u

Hey loudsho, I had to cut the strut shaft with a sawzall once to get it apart. Funny the first strut took me 4 hours and the second took me 20 minutes...(It wasnt a SHO).

I just installed the Tociko/Eibach on the rear and this week I will be doing the front. Did the work myself. From start to finish it took me 4 hours. I highly reccomend the Tociko/Eibach combo. It really improved the handling.

I was quoted 1 hr labor for each corner when I got my new struts/springs recently. I was charged more, but that's a different story. I am still investigating if the extra charge is bs or not, so it may actually cost more than that.

I just replaced my rear struts myself. The one bolt that clenches on the strut can be a real pain in the @$$ if you have rust on it. Be sure to loosen it two turns and then back it in one turn and keep repeating this. Spray everything down with WD-40. Do the work urself if you can. I got two new Sach struts and two mounts for $170 and i took it to a mechanic so he could compress the springs for me and switch them. That cost another 20 bucks. Meineke had quoted me $440 for everything. I was like F that.

Didn't even need to compress the Eibachs. Made it a little eaiser. burn_out
