So i have a 1993 atx with im guessing about 170K. I have owned it for almost 2 years now and i have dealt with the driving and stop and have it smoke but its starting to get old and annoying. I have done the research and checked the common issues. From what i can tell its toward the back side of the motor on the pass side. The power steering pump is completly soaked and the subframe is caked in oil and the oil pan is soaked. The lower timing cover is a little wet with oil but not soaked so i dont think its the front main. When i had to do the hydraulic timing tensioner a few months back the front main looked fine. I dont have alot of knowledge ive been teaching myself as i go along with the sho. The milage is a guess cause my speedo came unhooked from behind the manifold. Any input would be great im located in maine.

mine did this for the longest time, and it sounds to me like its time for a front and maybe a 60k.
which consist of all 3 cam seals, front main seal, crank sensor, cam sensor (i never had a problem with mine so i didnt repalce the cam sensor it is suggested that its replaced) water pump, and the timing belt.

with that kinda mileage, if you dont know the history of the car even after owning it for 2 years, rod bearings are recommended they be changed out for good assurance, plus that will allow you to reseal the oil pan nice and tight so it doesnt leak.

lastly if there is oil in the plug wells (mine had alot when i got it) i would replace the spark plugs, wires, and valve cover gaskets.

that should pretty much cover just about everyplace oil could leak from besides the rear main and carrier seal.

i hope this helps in anyway possible.

if u know there is no oil in the plug wells and plugs and wires are good i would stick with doing the front 60k, along with the rod bearings.
i actually just finished changing mine out right about 300 miles ago, mine use to leak oil like crazy but doesnt leak one drop that i know of as of right now even tho a need to do a top 60k again, cuz i drive alot. ive had my car 2.5 years and put 50k on it.

Did you check the rear of the valve cover gasket? If it is leaking it will do exactly what you are suggesting.

also, the power steering pumps, inlet fittings, and hoses can leak.

from your description, it sounds more like the engine is leaking rather than the ps pump, so there is a good chance that cam seals will fix this problem.

my experience is that the rear cam seal is almost impossible to install properly without the factory installation tool, so make sure you get that installed properly or it will leak right away again.

Pull the cam sensor and then you need to pull out the seal. You can do this by screwing in 2 wood screws and then pulling it out. It helps to tap the drill location.

Valve cover gasket with grommets , a new cam seal. Intake gaskets are re-usable if they arent damaged. If you go read that link to shophoenix that was posted it explains the whole process.
