I definately didn't win. And by the way, this isn't a street race.

So, I was driving to work on 131 S yesterday and every morning around the Ann St. exit, eveyone slows down for no reason. Today I was in the right lane (which i normally don't like being in), and I was looking to my left for a space to get over. Then when I looked back, the Infinity ahead of me was at a dead stop (he told me he engaged his ABS to stop). I locked my tires, but it only slowed me down a bit. I still hit him going about 35-40 I figure. We both pull of to the side and I survey the damage (I had to restart because I didn't have time to put the clutch in). Coolant going everywhere from the rad, police grill smashed into 2 big pieces (and many more missing little ones), bumper pushed in to the wheel on pass. side, pass. side headlight dangling...... and that was before opening the hood. I opened up and the IRCM had hit the coil pack and snapped one of the plugs off, and the battery had also hit the timing cover and cracked it a bit. Pretty messed up, but fixable. The Infinity just needed a new bumper it looked like, unless there was damage underneath.

So today after work I put a new rad in and made it drivable. I had to remove the roll dampener on the front mount for the rad to fit since the whole frame got pushed back a little bit. The pass. side bumper support pushed right through the frame because it's so rusty. I was able to pry the bumper back enough to stay off the wheel, but it's still pretty messed up. When i went to put the pass. side headlight back on, there wasn't enough clearance b/t the bumper and hood because the bumper must have moved up a bit too. So I took the little trim piece below the light out. The headerpanel is completely wasted, so I rigged the pass. side headlight on with a couple of brackets. I got some pictures, and I'll probably post a link to them a little later. Right now I need a drink......

that really sucks. ive yet to be the driver in an accident. but have been passenger in a couple. it has got to be a terrible feeling. especially since it really wasnt your fault, but thats not how insurance is going to see it....

Yes, I was issued a ticket by the police, so that's no fun. I'll have to call and see how much it is yet.... :oogle: Oh, and by the way, no one was hurt in the accident either :thumb:

Tim! Wow really sorry to hear that! How is that white+ hood? And sorry to hear of the Police grill getting smashed too! You got all the pieces? Let me know if I can help with some parts.

Bill---The White Plus hood survived. Actually, it did more than survive. It has a couple of scuffs on it (where it may have bent), but there are no cracks in it like that red one had. Those scuffs will probably buff out and you would never know! The Police Grill is a loss. There are 2 large pieces, but there is a bunch missing in-between (probably shattered). I have pictures, and i'll post them eventually......

Operdot--Thanks for the offer, if you could get the header panel off(the piece behind the headlights and grill), that would be great!!! I'm trying to figure out how to attach a grill to shield my brand new radiator.... Other than that, the frame is tweaked quite a bit, but the body panels are ok (the bumper's scratched and has a crack in it, but not bad). It still runs and drives straight, so I'm pretty happy.

NOOO!!! Now I feel bad... I totally jinxed Timbo. How many times did I marvel over how great the 89' has held up over the years and mentioned how it will last another ten. Maybe not.

Ok, car is all back together, and actually looks pretty good. I made my own brackets out of parts from the car that weren't good for anything else anymore :naughty: The bumper is popped off the driver's side, and the trim piece below the headlight it popped off the passenger's side, but other than that everything looks good. I did find a small stress crack in the plus hood as well. Nothing big. I still have to post some pictures for you guys........

Oh, and Jim.... of course it'll last another 10 years! :thumb: :hail:
