I went to put brakes on today and the pads were about 1/4in taller than the rotor. Would the previous owner installed regular Taurus rotors? All the part stores said they don't have SHO rotors in stock, but that they could get them. Considering I don't want to trust the morons at the stores, is there special rotor I have to order like a Continential or Mk.8?

Also for SHODWN, how did you get the Cobra calipers to fit on the SHO?

He has 17" wheels that will allow to use the Mustang Cobra brakes.

Autozone has the AIMCO rotors Part #54030 for the fronts and #54025 for the rears. Go to the V8SHO.com's website and you'll have the correct info about it.

I did the full brake job last Memorial Day. Rotors turned, new brake pads, bled the brakes. I also painted the calipers and brackets with VHT paint RED. While waiting for the paint to dry up, I measured the Cobra brake setup and found out that it will not clear the OEM 16" wheels and there's a big space about an inch from the top edge of the 11.6" rotors to the brackets. So, if you want to go with the Mustang Cobra brakes then it has to be 17" wheels. frown

Former V8 SHO owner, Bob Fijal made sure that Autozone is supposed to have two front rotors for a '97 SHO on hand at all times. If not, they can usually get them within a day or two. Bob worked at Autozone so if you order any parts for your car through them that are interchangable through the years (like pads and rotors) always ask for '97's and they'll likely have them on hand.

Chances are, that the previous owner installed the incorrect rotors, but to make sure, you'd have to see a correct set beside the ones you have. I've never heard of having too small a rotor being used... more often, they can't get the right pads for the car and assume the regular taurus pads are the same.

Can this be right? www.tirerack.com has stainless steal brake lines for $120. It says special order but it might be worth giving them a shout too see if it's true.

Thanks for the rotor #, found them now. All I want is cheapies because I'm getting the Baer kit next year.
