Rotora: Which color?

Ever since 802SHO posted about the Rotora calipers here, I've been hypnotized by their sheer beauty. The first question is: Fronts only, or fronts and rears? The second question is: WHICH COLOR??? They all look so nice. I was initially going to get the traditional, racing-red for my all-black SHO. But then the dark metallic blue caught my eye. Then the lime-green. Or maybe yellow, or orange. Both silver and the clear-anodized also look sweet. Agghhh! I can't decide. Which color would you choose?

Guess it all depends on the theme you're choosing for your car overall, coupled with how shall the calipers play off of or compliment that theme.

Well they said I could change the color since their 5-7 weeks out. I asked for purple and of course they said we don’t offer that color. So I changed it to dark metallic blue. Then got scared and changed it to matte black instead of gloss black…done. Lol! Can’t make up my mind…back to black.

Could always get them in hand, and then take them to a local powder coater of your choosing, and have them color match the purple.

I mean that cost would be peanuts given the level of investment performed thus far.

Go for broke!

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't decide. Still leaning toward the dark metallic blue. I think a bright contrasting color will be most satisfying, even though the silver and clear-anodized look really nice. Here's how it's stacking up:

1. Dark metallic blue.
2. Lime green (too ricer?).
3. Racing red.

Just remember, whatever secondary color you choose to introduce, no matter that secondary chosen color may be, be sure to at least carry it through somewhere else within the vehicle.

It doesn't necessarily need to be overstated by any stretch (especially if it's a bold color offering/choice) but subtle and applied elsewhere within the overall "theme".

It’s tempting to be bold and do green but idk. Would match my seat belts and license plate.

I like the green personally, but in the end, it's entirely up to the owner themselves.

Like I said previously, w/e you choose ultimately, just be sure to employ it elsewhere to carry the theme throughout.

In this instance, continuity is a good thing.

Good to know that I'm not the only one inclined toward the green! Any first I thought they would look way too ricer-ey, but these are going on a black SHO, not a WRX. In that vein, I'm sure the green would look sick on a Ford Focus RS.

Following the rules of art and style, I think a similar-colored accent is a good call. I originally thought the dark metallic blue would go with the blue Ford logo, but completely forgot that the centercap would be in very close proximity—the centercap-blue is a slightly different hue (i.e., two, similar, but slightly different hues isn't optimal; a completely different hue is preferred).

Also still eyeing the silver and clear-anodized, but the colored calipers will likely be more striking. Still, can't go wrong with racing-red on calipers. Awaiting an expected cash-inflow in the next day or two, so I will be able to spend the cash on both the fronts and the rears . . . once I decide on the color.

This may be a job for a Photoshop mash-up, similar to the TireRack see-the-wheels-on-your-car tool. I did this when choosing real-steel Magpul stocks for my airlsoft-rifles which really aided in visualizing the overall cosmetic effect. Unfortunately, after scouring every single page on the entire Rotora site, they don't have photos of every color on a wheel, making such a simulation far more difficult.

In lieu of that, I found a photo of this Lamborghini caliper in a similar green—on a silver car—and in this context, they really do pop. And on that car, they look a lot less ricer-ey, and more on the holy sh*t-that-looks-cool side.

Actually, orange looks pretty nice, too (I just did random image-searches for each color). Yellow calipers looked too "safety" oriented. Also, as good red looks on a black car, I think it's just too common.

Back to blue . . .

And . . . back to green.

And now back to blue again . . .

It was a bit challenging to find images of blue calipers on a black car, and one with black wheels, but the blue-shoe'd BMW below really is striking—the blue calipers being very noticeable but without being too garish. Plus, the photo also benefits us by being of a vehicle far more similar to the SHO than a Lamborghini. Blue is also reminiscent of Ford's corporate color and similar in hue to the "racing trim" on my BMW sport-electric. It's also probably the second-most common Brembo color (first, being red); thereby being a bit more familiar and a little less "import-ey."

Bluebrake5A

Again, the green looks great on the Lamborghini, but I think risks being a tad cheesy on a boxy American sedan like the SHO. In contrast, similar to red (i.e., red calipers always seem to look good), I don't think you can go "wrong" with blue. The only problem is the blue Ford centercaps. Would have to match (or, totally not match) the caliper paint-color somehow and apply a Ford logo decal, or perhaps even a SHO logo like the one some eBay seller makes, mentioned here on the forum somewhere.

So, yeah . . . dark metallic blue with custom "SHO" silver-on-black centercaps. And as bpd mentioned, it would be ultra-cool to match the color and add an accent somewhere else on the car—perhaps on the trailing-edge of the rear-spoiler, or on the inner lip of the chin-splitter. Some interesting possibilities here . . .
