I'm a little newbish when it comes to suspension, so correct my mistakes if you can.

I need to replace my CV shafts, and basically I need to disassemble the whole thing (hub?) that holds the brakes, the lug bolts and the CV joint, right?

Basically... I'm at a loss on how to do this. We tried a puller and that didn't work. A guy at local shop said I don't need to pull anything, and I'm just really at a loss. Any ideas, or a good procedure for replacing this?

I also need to get in there and pound out a lug bolt I destroyed and replace it.

A wheel stud can be replaced without removing the hub. Simply knock it out with a BFH. If you rotate the hub in the right position the stud will go in, then tighten it in with lug nut upside down. Index the stud so the spines line upwith the hub grooves. If you remove the nut on the cv at the hub, with the lower control arm removed(ball joint) you should easily be able to knock the shaft thru the hub & remove it. I believe I'v done this with just the tie rod removed allowing the knuckle to turn a enough to remove the outer shaft, then the inside. Inside first on intall. Its possible the sway link may need to be removed. The CV will need to be kocked out of the other side from uderneath. On the driver side oil will spill out of the trans. and need to be topped off after. The pass. side the CV is snapped on to the jack shaft. The whole knuckle needs to come off the car if you don't have the proper bearing press to remove hub & then bearing. You would still need a press to remove/install the bearing. the hub can pounded out but you still need the proper size tool to do that task then it needs to be pressed in to avoid damage to the bearing. If the bearing is good don't mess with it.

I was able to remove the entire knuckle/hub/CV and had a shop knock it out with an air hammer. Without a puller I don't think I would have been able to do it personally.
