ONe of the rear strut mounts was bad, so decided to replace both sides with new Moogs. Long body struts are much more difficult; swearing and applying BFH to the knuckle on one side took well over an hour, so I looked up some old threads on the topic, and thanks to SDPAtt, did the other side in no time.

1). jack up rear, jackstands under frame support, remove wheels.

2). remove 3 upper srut mount nuts using 14 mm ratcheting wrench; I did it from the trunk, jus bending over while snading on the ground; no problems.

3). remove strut pich bolt from knuckle. Mine came out easily with no pentrating oil needed since there's no rust anywhere on underneath of car

4). remove bake line to strut mounting bolt

5). remove sway bar endlinks; after taking nut off both sides, rotate sway bar downward to get links out. No need to loosen swaybar frame mounts, or loosen strut bar nuts.

6). Place spring compressors on strut spring, compress until spring moves freely.

7). Place bottle jack on top of knuckle and raise so top is on underside of the strut casing. Raise jack with one hand while hiolding strut with other unitl it pops out of the knuckle, and remove strut. 2 minutes is all this took.

8). Use crows foot wrench on strut nut and 10 mm socket wrench on top of strut piston to remove nut, strut mount, etc.

Install in reverse order, test drive, then consume mass quantities in celebration of successful operation.

If you got the pinch bolt out without the use of a drill, then yes that is the easy way. However a lot of us are not as fortunate to have a rust free car and need to drill out the pinch bolt along with the threads and install a bigger longer bolt and nut it. I just wanted to inform all the newbies what they might expect if they search for this topic. And for the newbies its not difficult to do if you need to drill out the bolts, its just very time consuming. Other than this little hick-up a very nice write up.

There are tricks to make every job on these cars easy ... except dash removal.

Oh, you probably wanted to put it back in, too...
