Hey Guy's has any one done this? or is it a waste of time and should just spend the money and get a K&N CAI?

If you're talking about the dryer hose to the front of the car thing, yeah, tried it once, didn't do anything other than making me nervous about sucking water in during major rainstorms. I don't see much of any gains from CAI's on SHO's. You've got to spend real $ to get really noticeable gains beyond the "seat of the pants" gains that everyone (myself included) uses to feel better about paying for, just my .02 I'd rather put it into replacing worn suspension parts or other questionably performing parts.

As for sound, you can get that be removing your silencer.

I have $100.00 in my focus with a custom ram air intake, and my car runs low 15's at the track. You might want to rethink the idea. A proper ram air system can yeild nice results, and it is very noticeable above 50mph.

BTW, the 06 focus ST stats claim a best of 16.1 1/4, and I took a second off...

Just some food for thought

It's not the same ST from Europe. It's a 4-door Focus with the 2.3L Duratec, 5-speed manual, and I believe, slightly different suspension.

Yeah, and if you throw a K&N into a 4.7L mustang, you'll get 25-30HP. Every car is different. If there is a restriction from the factory, then yes, a CAI will yield results. Most cars are restricted from the factory.

The SHO is not (so much). There's just no easy gains to be had.

Now, that having been said, putting new struts and springs on your car will yield you at least 15-20HP worth of time off the quarter mile, if you haven't already done so. There are far more ways to make your car go fast than engine mods. Even doing brakes will make your car go faster! (the later you can brake, the faster you can go...)

Very good point. I bet most SHO's would make it down the track faster with suspension mods, than go fast mods.

Someone did an evaluation with Ram air about a year ago (maybe Ernie ?) and found that it makes the SHO engine perform worse than stock.

Yes, but I think he claimed that his pickup location was not ideal, and that the car at high speed was causing a air bubble for say..... The air would then not go into the engine but around the whole car.

Thanks to the shape an aerodynamic properties of a taurus, the only real way to get a functional ram air would be to either hack apart your driver's side headlight and hope you don't suck up a bird/bug/small child or do some extensive bodywork to pull air in from either the leading edge of the hood or have a small scoop sticking out from the fender. Other than that, stick with the suggestions of some of the more wiser members of the forum, as just about everything's been tried already, and if it worked, we'd all have it.

I have a K&N panel filter in mine and am thinking of going back to the paper filter.
